This Tuesday, Tokyo Mew Mew fans got more information on the new series Tokyo Mew Mew New, announced in April 2020. The live-streamed event, “Tokyo Mew Mew New Anime Information Big♡Big♡Announcement Event!!!” announced the cast, release information, and most importantly, the first full promotional video for the new series.
Hit with a beam that makes her part Iriomote leopard cat, Ichigo Momomiya and her new friends work to save the Earth from aliens known as Chimera Anime while encouraging awareness of endangered species all over the world as magical girls.
The preview includes the cast’s idol unit Smewthie’s song, “Cat!! Shite Super Girls,” to go along with their other two released songs, “Bitter Sweet Darling” and “Resolution of Colors,” which were released on March 22, 2021.
The main cast is all new talent, but don’t let this discourage you from watching, because the team behind the series is stacked! Takahiro Natori (Cannon Busters) is directing the anime at Yumeta Company and Graphinica. If you loved the music of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal, Zombie Land Saga, and the Precure franchise, you’re in luck, Yasuharu Takanashi of Team-MAX is composing the music. Yuka Yamada (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid) is in charge of the script, and Satoshi Ishino (Date A Live, No. 6) is designing the characters.
Tokyo Mew Mew is best remembered as Mew Mew Power, a 52-episode series that aired on 4Kids Entertainment from 2002 to 2003. The series creators Reiko Yoshida and Mia Ikuma have stayed in the picture by creating and overseeing several spinoffs of the series. Tokyo Mew Mew New will premiere in July.
