Warrior Cats Video Game!

By now, all die-hard fans should know that the Warriors team announced a RPG video game called Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest. Available on all systems (PC and console), it is expected to release this fall.

Two weeks ago on July 28th, the official Warriors Instagram page began teasing what would become the video game news. From the start, fans were speculating that the reveal, initially just Brightheart art, would be models for the TV show coming in 2028. However, in the reel, the words “leveling up” were used, suggesting the possibility of a video game. By the second post, they used “controller” and the third had a video game controller emoji in the caption. Soon, we were all on the edge of our seats.

Then finally, the jig was up. The Instagram gave a full reveal post on August 6th. The official website also published an article with details called “New! Official Warrior Cats RPG on PC and Consoles.”

After over twenty years of the franchise, the fandom has been getting the best news the past couple years. With new merchandise available in person and several reveals of the TV show, it only made sense that a video game would be next. As someone who has never played (and will never play) Roblox, I’ve never even tried the roleplaying Warrior Cats game on there, so this will be my first exposure to the Warriors universe in a video game context.

So, what are all the exciting details? The video trailer revealed plenty, while fans have been digging deeper to get even more.

For starters, the character customization looks insane. From unnatural to realistic colors and markings, players will be able to make their OCs come to life. It includes fur patterns, colors, whiskers, tails, ears, eyes, markings, and whatever “more” means. I would love to be able to include scars. Since players start as an apprentice, I’m not sure if injuries or scars will be in-game mechanics instead of customization.

Players will be able to customize their den, or sleeping place, which sounds adorable. It will also be a spot to train in certain moves for battles.

As for combat, the trailer revealed the ability to fight snakes, badgers, and dogs. I assume Clan battles will also be possible or perhaps fights with rogues/loners. Clan-specific-moves are also available depending on which Clan is picked. From the description on TRAILMARK, bosses will be special opponents.

Other than the cats seen on the covers, we’re sure to see more. In the trailer, it appears Cloudtail is shown. As for the other Clans, I imagine we’ll see some major characters like leaders. With the inclusion of Ivypool, I have to wonder what era of characters we’ll be in. Technically, if Ivypool is there, players should be landing in the lake territories from Omen of the Stars or later.

That calls into question who a mentor could be, too. I imagine it is a set cat for each Clan, but if players get a choice that’ll be amazing. It also makes me wonder if the Clans will be fully populated by canon characters or have some extras as NPCs.

Which then spirals me into my next question: What about mates? Can we become mates with canon characters or is that what potential non-canon characters will be for? It also makes me wonder if they’ll allow for same-sex mates. If so, I hope they also have a mechanic to adopt kits, if having kits will even be included.

The last aspect I want to talk about is the plot. Players start the story off as an apprentice, and there’s mention of a new prophecy that seems to guide the story.

Hopefully with the ability to have different experiences based on which Clan you choose, replaying the game will be great despite having one main plot. Since it appears decisions affect the plot as well, I wonder how much will change each playthrough.

What about the future? I find myself wondering if the game does really well (which it will), are they going to add a multiplayer option? They are already going to allow asynchronous online den visiting, so the crumbs are there.

Is it possible they may even have a DLC in the future that allows for a SkyClan route? I would die to be able to have a storyline in the old SkyClan territory in the gorge.

Want the game guaranteed? Wishlist on Steam or pre-order from Amazon! Check out the Warriors page on TRAILMARK Games as well, which has more links and “coming soon” stickers on different consoles and sites.
