Duo Leveling on WEBTOON

Duo Leveling, the new short webcomic from the partnership between language learning app Duolingo and WEBTOON, launched on Wednesday, June 10th.

With six episodes (a prologue and five regular), Duo Leveling follows “Duo the owl, fan-favorite Learners Lily and Zari, and the rest of Duolingo’s cast as they battle magical chaos unleashed by Duo’s latest experiment.” The title is a spin on the award-winning WEBTOON-turned-anime Solo Leveling.

As a celebration of the launch, readers of the comic—in certain regions—can unlock one month free of “Super Duolingo” by reading three of the six episodes between June 10th and July 1st of 2026.

Check out the blurb for Duo Leveling:

When Duo’s experimental magic lessons unleash a wave of dangerous “quest portals” upon the world, it’s up to top Learners, Lily and Zari, to put a stop to the chaos. Through game-like trials, unexpected allies, and a sinister new foe, our heroes are faced with a question that will determine humanity’s fate: do you truly have what it takes to learn?

This new comic follows the success of their first collaboration, Duolingo Unleashed. Released in 2024, the short five episode series follows Duo the Owl as he accidentally creates a collection of clones that terrorize the city. The series amassed over 7.6 million views. As for the “sinister new foe” mentioned in the blurb, the Duo universe introduces Duo’s dark counterpart in this webcomic: Zero, a mysterious figure hellbent on ridding the world of “riff-raff” learners, is a ridiculous mastermind who fits well into their world.

As someone who has followed the chaotic memes surrounding Duo the Owl, the move to create short webcomics makes sense on a marketing level. They’re cheeky, a little cringe, and full of inspirational motivation to take daily language lessons on the app. Sure, the messaging is on-the-nose and cheesy, but the comics are enjoyable for a quick read. Plus, for any Duolingo users, the one month free of Super Duolingo is easy to obtain. Once you read three episodes, a pop-up will prompt an email address to send your promotion code.

And, of course, always remember (in the goofiest way possible):
