Attack on Titan: The Musical Coming to NYC This October

The legendary anime Attack on Titan came to an end last year after 10 years and 94 episodes. Before the epic conclusion in November 2023, however, a musical adaptation opened in Japan back in January of that same year. Now, fans in the United States can witness a live performance of this spectacle for one weekend only.

Attack on Titan: The Musical is coming to the New York City Center on October 11th, 12th, and 13th, with an evening showing on the 11th, two showings (one matinee and one evening) on the 12th, and a matinee on the 13th. The show will be performed in Japanese with English “supertitles,” meaning an English translation will be projected above the stage in real time. The cast of 35 performers includes Kurumu Okamiya as Eren Jaeger, Sara Takatsuki as Mikasa Ackerman, and Eito Konishi as Armin Arlert (see below). We can see in the official trailer that the terrifying Titans will grace the stage using a combination of projections and puppeteering.

The stage director is Go Ueki, who has also directed the stage adaptations of Hypnosis Mic, while the music director is Japanese hip hop/R&B artist KEN THE 390. The musical’s script is written by Masafumi Hata and the song lyrics are by Kaori Miura. I was unable to find an official track listing, but YouTuber Orchid4Hire has published the audios of 17 different songs from the musical on their channel. Based on the 1 hour 50 minutes runtime, the musical will most likely cover approximately half of the first season, considering the recap movie Attack on Titan Movie 1: Crimson Bow and Arrow covers the first 13 episodes with a duration of 2 hours and the remaining 13 episodes of Season 1 take an additional 2 hours to cover in Attack on Titan Movie 2: The Wings of Freedom.

Tickets start at $45, and there are still plenty of seats available! You can buy yours here under “Dates & Tickets.” For more information, visit the musical’s official website.
