Warrior Cats For Indie Bookstore Day

For Indie Bookstore Day 2026 (or Independent Bookstore Day, which is the full name) on Saturday, April 25th, Erin Hunter’s Instagram page revealed an indie bookstore exclusive: Warriors: Enter the Adventure,  written by Stan! and illustrated by James L. Barry.

This Warriors tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) was originally extra content primarily at the end of Omen of the Stars and some of the guidebooks. It is lovely to have them compiled into one book for Warriors and TTRPG fans, as well as collectors of the books.

Below is the post description from @erinhunterbooks on Instagram:

This Saturday is Independent Bookstore Day! Celebrate by picking up an exclusive copy of Warriors: Enter the Adventure! 📘Gather your Clanmates and roll the dice — with this guide, players pounce into rich storytelling, fierce battles, and enough character lore to fill the Moonpool… Quantities are extremely limited. Participating stores can be found at the link in our bio. Let us know where you’ll be shopping! 👇 #IndependentBookstoreDay

Here is the book’s blurb, too:

The Power is in Your Hands

Now Warriors fans can create their very own adventures with a tabletop role-playing game that’s perfect for readers of all ages. Design unique cat characters and lead them through dramatic scenarios with rival Clans while facing challenges both familiar and new. All you need is a pen, paper, and imagination!

This game guide includes detailed instructions, blank characters sheets, and seven games for you and your friends to play!

For those that missed the announcement and day, check out the participating stores document and see if they have any copies left. From researching into the New Jersey bookstores, it appears most of them would ship! It is worth reaching out to the stores to see if they would send any your way.

For me, I went back and forth about whether getting this was worth it. All of the participating stores in New Jersey and Pennsylvania were far, the closest being fifty minutes from me. When my lovely wife confirmed that the closest store would hold one under my name, I zipped right over. Apparently, it was all the motivation I needed.

I visited Ren’s Coffehouse & Books in Blackwood, NJ to pick it up. It’s a small, queer owned and operated location with an adorable, cozy vibe. The store is split into the coffeehouse and the bookshop, accessed through an open doorway between the two spaces. Since it was Indie Bookstore Day, it was very busy when I went—meaning I didn’t linger. Ren’s comes highly recommended by fellow FS writer Gabby, who collects their seasonal menus and has yet to try a drink she didn’t love. It is also the go-to date spot for her and her partner!

As for the book itself, let me talk about contents.

Inside, among the nostalgic art by Barry, is everything you need to play as a Warriors cat in different scenarios. It includes rules for personal character creation, as well as some Warriors characters themselves that fans will recognize, like Dovepaw, Jayfeather, and Mistyfoot. Of course, it explains how to play, too.

An example scenario “Saving the Kits” is included after the directions, which is then followed by seven scenarios or “games.”

While the back of the book, with the scenarios, is a normal font size, please be aware that the first part of the book is fairly small (pictured above). I also noticed it was faint. It would’ve been nice if they did a slightly bigger book to make the reading more accessible at the start.

Was it worth it? I think so. It was a way to visit and support a new independent bookstore, and to make sure my Warriors collection stayed completed. Maybe one day I’ll drag my friends into actually playing the game, too.
