The Sony Universe might still have some power left but it might not be enough. Smile 2 keeps smiling at the box office and Oscar movie season is starting to heat up. Here are the Box Office results from this past weekend.
1. Venom: The Last Dance easily won first place at the box office this weekend bringing in 51 million dollars. This might seem like a good opening weekend, especially with how movies have performed this year. The studio predicted the movie to make around 65 million dollars. This so far, is the worst-performing movie in the franchise. Can Venom sustain itself in the upcoming weeks? Only time will tell. The underperforming could be due to the World Series going on as well as the previous Sony movies, Madame Web and Morbius not doing very well.
2. Smile 2 continues to do well bringing in another 9.4 million dollars. The film has been a success due to a low budget and a franchise is most likely in the works.
3. The Wild Robot has been a surprise for a lot of people. The movie is in the lead it seems to win an Oscar. This weekend the movie made another 6.5 million dollars to its total.
4. Conclave was the other new movie released this weekend along with Venom and did pretty well bringing in 6.5 million dollars. The movie has a lot of Oscar buzz and it’s an exciting time when Oscar season starts to heat up.
5. We Live in Time took in 4. 8 million dollars. The romantic drama has gotten a lot of people talking about the story and performances. Look for this one to also have some Oscar buzz.
In other movie news, after almost 2 months, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice finally was knocked out of the top 5. Next week we will see if Venom can keep the top spot. A new experimental Robert Zemeckis film is coming out as well as a new Clint Eastwood film.
