This past weekend Deadpool proved it still is a powerhouse. The Crow was one of the newest releases and it has failed miserably. It Ends With Us is still making money and horror is doing very well these days. It wasn’t a weekend where everyone went to the movies but money was still made. Here are your top 5 domestic weekend box office results.
1. Deadpool & Wolverine took offense to not being number one last week when Alien: Romulus took the top spot. It came back to grab first place bringing in another 18.3 million dollars. Will it be the top-grossing movie of 2024?
2. Alien: Romulus took in another 16.2 million dollars making the worldwide total so far around 225 million dollars. This is great news for Alien fans even with the dropoff and means maybe we might even get another sequel.
3. It Ends With US came in third place bringing in another 11.8 million dollars. The adaptation has been doing extremely well almost making 250 million dollars worldwide with only a 25 million dollar budget. The sequel adaptation is almost guaranteed.
4. Blink Twice was one of the new films that came out this weekend. A mystery thriller with Channing Tatum took the fourth spot this past weekend. It took in only around 7.3 million dollars but with a worldwide total of 14 million dollars against a 20 million dollars, it should make it’s money back. Reviews have also been very good for Zoe Kravitz’s debut film.
5. The Forge came in 5th place bringing in 6.6 million dollars. I honestly had no idea what this movie was. When I looked it up, I did see it was a Christian film. Every now and then these religious movies come out and do very well. People come out and show support and they did this past weekend.
In other news, the biggest story is how The Crow failed miserably. The movie came in 8th place and took in 4.6 million dollars at the box office. The movie has received hate for a while now. Early reviews came out saying that the movie was terrible which did not help. People were also not too attached to the trailer. Original Crow fans couldn’t make what to think of it. The reviews have been very poor so it doesn’t seem this one will be making much more money. Consider it a bomb with a budget of 50 million dollars.
In the horror world, Strange Darling was released. It has gotten the best reviews of the weekend with some calling it the best thriller/horror of the year. It didn’t make much money but should do well when it hits streaming. Next week sounds like it will be a slow weekend with the only notable release being Afraid. A killer AI movie with John Cho.
