JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 2 Wins Anime of the Year

The Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024 has just concluded, and one particular anime came out on top as the most successful anime of the year. Although Chainsaw Man received the most nominations overall in a staggering 25 categories,  JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 2 took home the most awards by a landslide. In addition to the coveted title of Anime of the Year, the show won Best Character Design, Best Cinematography, Best Action, and Best Director. In the music categories, JUJUTSU KAISEN claimed both Best Opening Sequence for its first opening song, “Where Our Blue Is” by Tatsuya Kitani (although fans seem to largely prefer the second opening, “SPECIALZ” by King Gnu), and Best Ending Sequence for its first ending song, “Akari” by Soushi Sakiyama. Fan favorite Satoru Gojo won Best Supporting Character, and his voice actors in Japanese (Yuichi Nakamura ), French (Martial Le Minoux), and Portuguese (Léo Rabelo) all won Best VA Performance for their respective languages. This is a total of 11 awards, which means there are only 5 categories for which this anime was nominated but didn’t win.

Although Chainsaw Man was not as successful as its number of nominations may have suggested, it did come second to JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 2 in the number of wins, though all but one of them were in one of the Best VA Performance categories. In addition to Best New Series, Chainsaw Man also won the best voice acting performance for the English, Castilian, Spanish, Italian, and German categories. The awards for the first four languages went to the voice actors of main character Denji, while the German award went to the voice actress of supporting character Power. The only Best VA Performance category that did not go to JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 2 or Chainsaw Man was Arabic, which was won by Taleb Alrefai for his performance as Dr. Stone protagonist Senku Ishigami.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc won the next highest number of awards, winning Best Animation, Best Art Direction, and Best Fantasy. One Piece, Attack On Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS, and SPY x FAMILY Season 1 Cour 2 all won two categories each, while Buddy Daddies, Bocchi the Rock!, Horimiya: The Missing Pieces, Suzume, and OSHI NO KO won one category each. Hell’s Paradise, Mob Psycho 100 III, Zom 100: Bucket Lsit of the Dead, Heavenly Delusion, Vinland Saga Season 2, MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES, Tomo-chan Is a Girl!, and TRIGUN STAMPEDE were all nominated for a minimum of three categories, but unfortunately did not win in any of them.
