The highly anticipated sixth installment of the Scream franchise hits theatres next year and promotion for the film is soon set to heat up. While no official plot details have been revealed, we do know that the next chapter will take place in New York City, with a new Ghostface set to unleash more bloody carnage. The film will continue with the surviving members of the latest Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a new chapter.
While we will have to wait a little bit longer for any sort of teaser, or trailer, we have had some insight into what’s to come with several of the film’s stars giving us an idea of what the film will look like.
In a recent interview with ET Online, Jenna Ortega spoke more about Scream 6, and gave us a better idea of what to expect, whilst discussing the absence of Neve Campbell:
“I feel like I can’t really speak too much on that just because it’s not necessarily my character. But I will say there’s so much going on in this next one, that it’s so action-heavy and so gore-heavy that I think you’re gonna be distracted almost. But it’s very clear, like, there’s references to Sidney, of course. You know, it’s nice because there’s still a protectiveness in the script and that’s something that the actors had naturally over her because obviously we respect her and we want the best for her. She’s missed and thought of.”
Ortega’s excitement for the film is shared by co-star, and on-screen sister, Melissa Barrera who previously claimed that the next installment is “on another level.”
“It’s been incredible. It’s a gift to be able to come back with people that I love. Getting to do it again, it’s like coming back home. We’re having so much fun – I can’t say too much about this one but it’s on another level. Matt and Tyler are injecting it even more with their personalities and their love for horror. And I think because they did such a good job in making a tribute to Wes in the last one, they feel like now they have a little bit more liberty to go in the direction they want to go, and it’s exciting.
In this next movie, audiences are going to get to know the characters a lot more and it’s really cool. The new cast is incredible. I mean having all these people join the family is amazing, it’s taking everything up another notch. And there’s more of Sam and Gale for sure, and that’s really cool. I feel like the writers did a really good job… now that they’ve seen us, now that they know us, everything kind of meshes. They take some things from real life and try to infuse them into it, because these movies are always very meta and they’re doing that very well in this one.”
Scream 6 will also see the return of Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Courtney Cox and Hayden Panettiere –who will reprise her role as Kirby Reed from Scream 4.
Newcomers to the franchise include Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda and Josh Segarra
Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back to direct the film which was written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.
Scream 6 is set to hit theatres on March 10th, 2023.
