In recent years, late August has been a dumping ground for mediocre movies. This weekend proved that but did some titles still make money? Deadpool won’t die, Alien stays strong. The Crow continues to fall hard and a president has some fans. Here are your top 5 domestic weekend box office results.
1. Deadpool & Wolverine has come in at number one once again bringing in another 15.1 million dollars. After a couple of duds, it seems the MCU is back on the right path.
2. Alien: Romulus took in another 9.3 million dollars. Seems like we could be getting more Alien movies as well as more Predator movies as one titled Badlands is already in the works.
3. It Ends With Us continues to bring in numbers adding another 7.425 million dollars. It is interesting to see if a sequel to this one will come out even with the controversy surrounding it.
4. Reagan exceeded expectations making 7.4 million dollars in its opening weekend when it was only expected to make 5-7 million. Biopics depending on who they are about always seem to do pretty well. This might be a situation where everyone who wanted to see this movie saw it. Reviews have not been good at all claiming the movie feels like a satire or SNL skit where Reagan can do no wrong.
5. Twisters takes the fifth and final spot this weekend. It took in another 7.1 million dollars. Word of mouth added to this as one for sure as many people have been enjoying it.
In other movie news, The Crow dropped to 12th place and it seems it is most likely done being talked about after only 2 weeks. Afraid had its first opening weekend and it was not successful making only 3.7 million dollars and coming in 9th place. The movie looked generic and it didn’t seem to grab anyone. I do believe Deadpool will be knocked off next week with the sequel to Beetlejuice coming out with people predicting it will make over 100 million dollars.
