Aaron Pierre is Our New Green Lantern

It has been announced that Aaron Pierre has been cast as John Stewart in the upcoming Lanterns TV show. This will be the first DC-produced television show released under the new ownership of James Gunn and Peter Safran. It’s a show that already cast Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan not too long ago.

The actor has been on many people’s minds recently since his star-making leading role in the film Rebel Ridge. Rebel Ridge premiered on Netflix and was an instant hit with critics and fans.

The series is set to debut on HBO and is said to follow Hal Jordan (Chandler) as a seasoned veteran Green Lantern training and watching over a younger John Stewart (Pierre). The two intergalactic cops get pulled into investigating an Earth-based murder. The show is said to have a gritty, True Detective-like feel.

The show has some major talent behind it as well. Creators Chris Mundy(Ozark) and Damon Lindelof(Watchmen, Lost) are set to executive produce with Mundy being the showrunner.

There is a stigma when it comes to Green Lantern due to the failure of the movie that was released in 2011. There is also a stigma when it comes to DC as a whole. This is due to the mess that was Zack Snyder’s DC universe and the lack of coalition. It does seem with this news and the recent Superman news, that James Gunn is hard at work producing quality content and hiring quality staff. With how excellent the reviews have been, it shows that a DC-related show can easily work on HBO.

There is currently no release date for Lanterns. Stay tuned.
