Sony has the rights to Spider-Man characters and they are not afraid to use them! They have already released two Venom solo films and will release a Morbius solo film later this year. The studio also has plans to release a Kraven the Hunter film, which has already begun casting. Now they have their sights on one of Spider-Man’s mentors- Madame Web.
According to a report, Dakota Johnson will star as the titular character in their live-action feature debut. The Madame Web solo film will be directed by S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones) with the writing duo, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless helming the screenplay. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless previously worked as writers for Morbius and Lost in Space.
There are no details on what version of Web will be the focus of the film. Will she be her older self like in the 90s animated Spider-Man series or the new younger version seen above? We are curious how this film will play into the grand plan for Sony’s cinematic Spiderverse.
We will make sure to keep you updated as more details come in.
