In anticipation of the upcoming release of The Matrix Resurrections, Warner Bros. has released eight brand new character posters that highlight the return of Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne Moss in their iconic characters roles of Neo and Trinity, as well as newcomers to the franchise who are expected to play a pivotal role.
The posters – which all say ‘Re-enter’ – also feature Jessica Henwick as Bugs, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Morpheus, Neil Patrick Harris as The Analyst, as well as Eréndira Ibarra, Jonathan Groff and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
The Matrix Resurrections will serve as the fourth entry of the franchise, following on from the events of 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions. Given the conclusion of the previous entry, fans have speculated just how the upcoming release will play out, questioning whether it will act as a prequel or something entirely different. Although the plot details are still unknown, Co-Writer David Mitchell gave fans a hint as to what they can expect from the film.
“I saw the film in Berlin in September. It’s really good. I cannot tell you what this film is about, but I could explain what it is not. It’s certainly not yet one more sequel, but something autonomous that contains however the three Matrix that preceded in a really ingenious way. It’s a very beautiful and weird creation. It also achieves a couple of things that we do not see in action films, meaning it subverts the rules of blockbusters.”
The film is directed by Lana Wachowski, who co-wrote the script with David Mitchell and Aleksandar Hemon.
The Matrix Resurrections is set for release in theatres and on HBO Max (for a 31 day period) on December 22nd.
