Amazon Prime and Blumhouse team up to bring us the Sundance Award-winning horror film, Nanny, and today we got our first look with the release of the film’s trailer – which you can check out below.
A synopsis for the film reads:
In this psychological fable of horror, Aisha, a woman who recently emigrated from Senegal, is hired to care for the daughter of an affluent couple living in New York City. Haunted by the absence of the young son she left behind, Aisha hopes her new job will afford her the chance to bring him to the U.S., but becomes increasingly unsettled by the family’s volatile home life. As his arrival approaches, a violent presence begins to invade both her dreams and her reality, threatening the American dream she is painstakingly piecing together.
Nanny stars Anna Diop (Us), Michelle Monaghan (The Craft: Legacy), Sinqua Walls (The 15:17 to Paris), Morgan Spector (The Gilded Age), and Rose Decker (Mare of Easttown).
The film is directed by Nikyatu Jusu, who has spoken about her excitement on the team up with Amazon and Blumhouse:
“Knowing my first feature, Nanny, is now among a roster of provocative and iconic work at Amazon is rewarding. Coupled with Blumhouse’s recognizability in the world of genre, horror specifically, I’m excited to be in the warm embrace of a team at the intersection of bold content and indie filmmaking sensibilities. My hope is that this acquisition stands as a testament to their continued bravery in ushering in unique voices.”
Jason Blum, head of Blumhouse, also added his thoughts:
“We’re proud to have writer/director Nikyatu Jusu’s Nanny as part of our slate for Amazon. It’s a gem of a horror film that combines impressive filmmaking and powerful storytelling, and is worthy of the Grand Jury Prize it was awarded at Sundance.”
Nanny will be released theatrically on November 23rd, 2022 before debuting on Amazon Prime on December 16th, 2022.
