This past weekend, people showed up at the box office to see Sonic race past Mufasa. Wicked and Moana are still going strong, and Angel Studios is making its way back into the top five. Here are this weeks box office results.
1. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 took in 62 million dollars over the weekend landing it in first place at the box office. Word of mouth has been great with critics and audiences saying this is the best movie in the franchise so far. Look for this one to keep making money during the holiday break.
2. Mufasa took in 35 million dollars, which is good enough to land it in second place. This is nowhere near as much as the previous live-action movie made. The movie doesn’t seem like it will be a bust due to how much it has already made overseas, but maybe it shows that audiences are getting tired of these live-action Disney remakes, original stories or not.
3. Wicked took in another 13.5 million dollars. The movie continues to make money and stay fresh in people’s heads with Oscar season coming up.
4. Moana 2 just keeps making money as well as it pulled in another 13.1 million dollars. It seems like Disney is back on top as they are the highest grossing studio this year.
5. Homestead took in 6 million dollars. What is Homestead? I have no idea. What I do know is that it is a movie produced by Angel Studios. The religious based studio usually does well when a movie is put out.
In other movie news, come back next week to see how one of the most anticipated movies of the year, Nosferatu, does at the box office.
