This weekend, the box office was disappointing. Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans are in a box office bomb? The Wild Robot continues to make money and an Oscars front-runner gets some respect. Here are your box office weekend results.
1. Red One is the new release this past weekend. It has a big talented cast, a holiday theme, and seems to be packed with fun action. Was it successful? Not exactly. The movie did get first place taking in 34 million dollars at the box office. First place sounds good until you realize the movie costs between 200 and 250 million dollars. This doesn’t even include marketing. Big names don’t automatically mean box office success as they used to. It doesn’t seem like this one will be making its money back, especially with some huge blockbusters coming out next week.
2. Venom: The Last Dance took in another 7.3 million dollars. The third installment is now the movie to make the least money in the franchise.
3. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever took in another 5.4 million dollars. The movie has been a surprise hit most likely due to its charm. It has already surpassed its 10 million dollar budget.
4. Heretic took in 5.1 million dollars. This was good enough for fourth place this week. The Hugh Grant-led horror film is one of the best-reviewed of the year.
5. The Wild Robot took in another 4.3 million dollars. This is easily one of the best movies of the year and it shows by remaining in the top five despite being able to be rented at home already.
In other movie news, while not making the top 5, Anora has been bringing in money. The movie has made 20.4 million dollars against a 6 million dollar budget. This is great news considering the movie had a limited release. The box office next week should be really interesting as both Gladiator 2 and Wicked are released.
