Renowned actress Dame Maggie Smith passed away peacefully in a London hospital on September 27, 2024. She was 89 years old.
While Smith was best known for her roles as Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter film series and Dowager Countess Violet Crawley in the TV show Downton Abbey, her acting career began in the 1950s. Her first major award nomination was in the Most Promising Newcomer to Film category at the 1958 BAFTA Awards for her role as Bridget Howard in the film Nowhere to Go. In the many decades that followed she has won a remarkable 58 awards such as two Oscars, five BAFTAs, four Emmys, three Golden Globes, and one Tony. Her resume includes just about every kind of acting one can imagine, including stage, film, television, and voice acting.
We at Fandom Spotlite would like to express our condolences to her friends, family, and fans.
