Hi, Fandom Fans! This week has been a slow one. There isn’t anything wrong with a change of pace. It gives us the option to stop and smell the roses. We’ll make this roundup short and sweet, so you can get back to enjoying some downtime.
Here’s what we covered this week:
Lucasfilm has debuted the first trailer for its upcoming Rogue One spin-off, Andor.
Let me tell you the story of the Space Viking, Thor Odinson…Marvel has released a brand new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder.
The wait for Stranger Things Season 4 is nearly over and today we got our final trailer ahead of the release.
Star Wars Day Lights the Future of the Galaxy
This week was Disney’s Star Wars Day. This is when Lucasfilm shares with fans the future of the franchise. Besides the trailer for Andor, there were more big announcements! Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, an Original series starring Jude Law, by executive producers Jon Watts, Christopher Ford, Jon Favreau, and Dave Filoni, will stream in 2023 only on Disney+.
A Magical Return
This fall, a new adventure begins. The cult classic, Willow, gets a long-awaited sequel! During Star Wars Day, Lucasfilm released an official teaser trailer for–Willow (2022). As you can see from the trailer we have the return of some of the original cast and we are joined by some new faces. Willow premieres on November 30, 2022.
A New Demon on Wheels
The power of Nostalgia can not be stopped. Speed Racer will be racing back into your screens thanks to Apple TV and J.J. Abrams. Apple TV has given the series the green light. Ron Fitzgerald and Hiram Martinez are attached to write and executive produce in addition to serving as co-showrunners. Abrams will executive produce under his Bad Robot banner. Warner Bros. Television is the studio, where Bad Robot is under an overall deal. The last time we saw a live-action Speed Racer was in 2008, as a feature film. Will a TV series be a better translation of the show?
Another Caught in the Web
Sony’s Madame Web has added another star to its cast, Celeste O’Connor. O’Connor was recently in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The young actress joins Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney who have already signed on to the film. Madame Web is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 7, 2023.
Kevin Spacey in More Legal Trouble
On Thursday, Kevin Spacey was charged with four counts of sexual assault against three men, and charged with one count of “causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent” according to Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service. The charges were authorized on Thursday, but the actor is not currently in England or Wales and the charges cannot formally be applied until he enters one of those countries. There has been no word on whether CPS would be seeking Spacey’s extradition if he does not do so.
That completes this week’s Fandom News Roundup. Here is hoping that June brings good weather and more fandom news. Remember to stay safe and we will see you next week.
