This month, I decided to talk about some of my goals for 2023. The things I aspire to do in an effort not just to know better but do better. Join me on this fandom journey to enlightenment.
Doing Whatever I Want like Peter Quill in Avengers: Infinity War
Did Peter Quill make the dumbest decision in the entire MCU? Probably. Did he follow his heart? Yes. As adults, we often find ourselves making decisions that are responsible and good for the well-being of others. Those decisions are not always the ones that make us solely happy. There is a fear of being judged for being selfish. NEWSFLASH: IT IS OK TO BE SELFISH! Again, Star Lord’s decision did get half of the known universe erased but…only temporarily. If you have seen the films, you shouldn’t be surprised by his actions. Quill often did what was best for him, even if the outcome wasn’t always ideal. The goal is really to stop worrying about what others think and just do what makes YOU happy. Free yourself of fear and start living life authentically. Yes, people will not agree with every decision you make but if they truly care about you, they will understand. I plan on doing more of what I want and if you don’t like it…then go commit a time heist.
Go on More Adventures like Carl & Russell in Pixar’s UP
We have been dealing with a pandemic for almost three years now. Covid-19 and its multiple forms have had most of us stuck at home and adapting to a different way of living. While there is still cause to tread carefully, things are starting to get better. After spending so much time at home, I have begun to long for adventure! If Covid has taught me anything is that life is short and we have to make the most of every day we are given. In Pixar’s UP, the passing of Carl’s wife, Ellie, devasted him…and anyone who has seen the film. Only knowing a life with his wife, Carl finds himself a recluse. That’s until a crazy idea and an adorable boy showed him that there is so much out there! Russell and Carl embark on a wild and strange journey to fulfill a promise to Ellie. Really it is all about the friends you make along the way. Adventures don’t have to be as fantastical as the one in UP, it can be learning a new hobby, going on a vacation, exploring new parts of your community, etc. As for me, I want to go skydiving and travel more! I want to push myself to break out of the monotony of my everyday life and make memories that I can share with my grandcats. Yes, I said grandcats.
Find Love like Yuki and Taira in Devil’s Line
If you have read my first edition of Life According to Fandom, you would know that I’m single. In 2023, I’d like to change that. In Devil’s Line, Taira stumbles into love. And by stumble I mean, her friend attacked her but that friend turned out to be a vampire. Then Yuki, who is half-vampire saves her, and then you know they fall in love. Now you’re probably saying, “Letti, that’s a bit much.” I beg to differ. Love is a kaleidoscope, it has many forms, shapes, and colors, and no one loves the same. Yuki and Taira have an intense and passionate love that has to stand up to society, and differences, almost being eaten alive during intimacy. Still, they make it work. That’s what I want. If I am going to commit to finding love, then I want something that is fiery and shakes me to my core. I am hyperaware that vampires are not real and that to find love you have to put yourself out there. You also have to be open to receiving love. Taira has had suitors before but she wasn’t ready. When she laid eyes on Yuki, she knew he was the one. If love is your goal too, make sure that you are ready to do the work that comes with it. Or move to Staten Island.
Those are just some of my goals for 2023; what are yours? Share them in the chat below. I’ll do my best to stay on track and I wish you success with your goals.
Until then I’ll keep following my fandom and I hope you will keep following yours.
See you next time.
