AMALGAM GRAND RE-OPENING & JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION amalgam'Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse is more than its name- it is a Hall of Justice for the nerds of Philadelphia to celebrate the worlds of superheroes, supervillains, and everything in between. Amalgam is also a safe haven for those who don’t feel safe to share their secret identities just yet. This shining pillar of strength and acceptance has created a GoFundMe to help raise funds for its grand re-opening and Juneteenth celebration.

If Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse seems familiar to you, there is a good reason for that! Its owner, Ariell Johnson, and the store itself went VIRAL! Ariell Johnson has been on CNN, The New York Times, CityWide Stories, Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, The Mary Sue, and many more! But, she may be most memorable for being on the cover of Marvel’s Invincible Iron Man with Tony Stark and Riri Williams.

PA - Invincible Iron Man #1 Variant Signing | Convention SceneAmalgam has currently raised over $9,000 of its $35,000 goal. We at Fandom Spotlite are hoping you’ll consider being a hero and donating to this worthy cause.

Of course, you want to know what your donation is going to. Allow me to break it down.

First, we have the Grand Re-Opening. Amalgam is looking to do a bit of housekeeping and sprucing up before they will be ready to safely serve their community.

This includes:

– Making rental payments for the store space
– Maintenance, repairs, and replacement of fixtures and equipment
– Required Health Department up-grades to the kitchen sinks and plumbing
– Deep cleaning and disinfecting of the space
– Purchasing COVID-19 safety barriers and other PPE
– Filling open staff positions and training new team members

Secondly, is the Juneteenth Celebration. Amalgam has partnered with the Black Child Book Fair and the New Kensington CDC to bring their first outdoor Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 19th. There will be books, comics, music, and arts & crafts!  Your support will help them bring this free admission event to the children and families of our Philly community.

Your donations will help provide:

– Shade tents and tables for the vendors
– Payments to the DJs, performers, and sound technicians providing entertainment and technical support for the day
– Porta-Potties and hand washing Stations
– Promotional Materials

During this time of Covid, there have been many heroes doing what they can not just for their communities but for all of us. Now it is our turn to be a hero! You can do so by donating to Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse’s GoFundMe campaign. You’ll not only be helping the business but the people in the community that they help.

For more information about Amalgam, you can follow them on Facebook!
