Wolf Man Stumbles – Box Office Results – January 17-20-2025

This Martin Luther King Jr weekend was indeed interesting in terms of movies. It was the lowest total box office domestically in the last ten years. Mufasa continues to reign supreme despite a middling reception. A buddy comedy surpasses expectations and a universal monster surprisingly falls flat. Here are this weekend’s box office results.

1. Mufasa made another 15.5 million dollars this weekend. This was enough for first place and brings its worldwide total to almost 600 million dollars. It seems families keep returning to this one. It is interesting considering word of mouth hasn’t been great. We shall see how long Mufasa remains king.

2. One of Them Days made 14 million dollars and is a bit of a surprise. January is sometimes known to be a dumping ground. Comedies don’t do as well as they used to. The movie has very good reviews and stars Keke Palmer and SZA.

3. Wolf Man took in 12 million dollars this weekend. With a budget of 25 million dollars, this doesn’t seem that bad but it is disappointing for the Blumhouse film. Leigh Whannell’s previous film The Invisible Man made 29 million dollars opening weekend and the budget was only 7 million. The movie does have some mixed reviews with some saying they wanted a more in-depth film similar to Invisible Man.

4. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 took in another 11 million dollars. The movies seem to get better and better continuing to make money and getting excellent reviews. The talents of Keanu Reeves, Jim Carey, and Idris Elba seem to help as well.

5. Moana 2 made another 8.4 million dollars. It is still crazy to believe that this was supposed to be a streaming series on Disney Plus. The movie has now made over a billion dollars worldwide.

Join us next week to see how the box office turns out.
