Pop Culture Games : A Goofy Movie Game Review

A Goofy Movie came out in  April 1995. Now over 20 years later it is finally getting the love it deserves. Filled with some really catchy tunes, great jokes, and a genuinely heartwarming bond between father and son, there is just so much to love with this movie. Now, people can bring the nostalgia home and enjoy the board game.

A Goofy Movie Game from Funko Games is 2 to 4 players and takes about 25 to 30 minutes to complete. Players have 4 characters to choose from. They consist of Max, Roxanne, P.J., and Bobby.

Players then take a deck of cards that matches the character they have chosen to play as. These cards have different colors and numbers on them. These colors and numbers when played correctly will help you collect scrapbook cards that will be used at the end of the game to gain points.

Players take turns collecting scrapbook cards and rolling the die. Cards and the die help players as well as Powerline move across the board to get to Los Angeles in time for the big concert. If the scrapbook deck runs out of cards or if Powerline reaches the arena before you do, the game ends. Count up your points and see who is the winner.

The game is quick to learn and quick to play. There is still plenty of strategies involved as you collect cards to make combinations to gain more points.

As fans collect scrapbook cards, they will see classic moments they might recognize from the movie illustrated on them. People who may have not seen the movie can still enjoy the game though because it doesn’t require prior knowledge of the film to do well or to win.

The board is designed beautifully with colors that truly pop. The moving pieces are all clear and visible with nice details showing off each character.

Goofy not being a playable character is disappointing. He only serves as a very small way to help get extra cards during your turn. In the movie, Goofy is the one who went on a big road trip with his son Max, so it is kind of odd that you can’t play his character.

I do wish there was an expansion pack with more scrapbook cards. Even though it is fun and strategic to collect and combine cards, there is a limit to combinations. After playing a couple of times, you start to remember what combinations are worth more points and I guess I wish we had just a little more variety.

A Goofy Movie Game is fun for the whole family. It is easy enough for children to understand while still having enough nostalgia and strategy to keep adults interested as well. I loved the movie growing up and I still can’t get those songs out of my head. If you are like me, you will most definitely need this game for your collection.
