Poe Goes Punk at The Poe Museum’s UnHappy Hour

Next Thursday, August 22nd, The Poe Museum in Richmond, VA hosts a night full of live music, food, and drinks! Sponsored by TBT El Gallo and Funktastic Meads, this month’s show features performances by Richmond local bands Bat Boy and Doll Baby, as well as Teens In Trouble, an indie punk band from Raleigh, NC.

Established in 1906 in Poe’s hometown, the museum started when a gathering of the writer’s fans got together to create a monument to him, eventually opening to the public in 1922. Today, it remains a place to honor and learn more about Poe, hosts guided and interactive tours for visitors of all ages, offers lectures followed by wine in the garden, and shines a light on a variety of artists at their monthly UnHappy Hour. About this month’s artists:

Bat Boy is comprised of Jake Guralnik (Spraynard), Cory Chub (Sundials), and Hannah Eagle. Brooklyn Vegan describes them as “catchy indie punk” and with a horror-inspired video for their first single, the band feels appropriate for the gently macabre setting that is the Poe Museum.

Helmed by Lizzie Killian and named one of idobi Radio’s “100 Rising Artists You Need To Listen To in 2024,” Teens in Trouble prides itself on “catchy hooks, heavy guitars, and disarmingly direct lyricism.” The band brings an engaging energy to live shows which will encourage even those completely unfamiliar with their work to get moving and singing along.

Doll Baby also hails from Poe’s hometown of Richmond. Self-described as alternative punk, the band’s has dedicated all Bandcamp revenue from their newest release, Crumbled at our feet, to be donated to the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
