Movie theatres are patiently waiting for some big budget blockbusters to come out, but a blockbuster doesn’t mean big bucks the way it used to. This past weekend’s box office suffered a bit. We got Robert Pattinson seeing double, a Stephen King story staying strong, and a bear who won’t quit. Here are the weekend box office results.
1. Mickey 17 took in 19.1 million dollars in its opening weekend. The movie directed by Oscar winner Boon Joon-ho has been getting good reviews but might be a little too out there for general audiences. The movie needs to make close to 300 million dollars to make a profit, so it seems like it might be an uphill battle.
2. Captain America: Brave New World took in another 8.5 million dollars. The movie has made almost 400 million dollars worldwide. The production had multiple reshoots and a costly budget. It seems we are just waiting for Thunderbolts* at this point.
3. Last Breath made 4.2 million dollars over the weekend. Not many people have gone out to see the Woody Harrelson-led drama, but reviews have been pretty good.
4. The Monkey made 3.9 million dollars this past weekend. The bizarre horror film based on a Stephen King short story is the highest grossing horror film of 2025 so far.
5. Paddington in Peru took in 3.8 million. The bear from Peru is successful once again and a fourth movie as well as a television series are currently in development.
Come back next week to see how the box office turns out.
