This week we’re shining our spotlight on Staten Island cosplayer Jonathan, AKA RealDielCosplay (he/him/they)!
How long have you been a cosplayer?
I’ve been a cosplayer since I was 20, so about 11 years ago.
What got you into cosplay?
I got into cosplay at the urging of some old friends who had some suggestions and then put me in front of a camera, I loved the feeling of posing, modeling, and dressing up and continued to do so.
Do you make, buy, or is it a combination?
I make and buy. I love the process of making things from scratch but also love how a good closet cosplay can come together.
First cosplay?
Kingpin from Spider-Man and Daredevil was my first cosplay, ironically around the time I started shaving my head.
Latest cosplay?
My latest cosplay was Gluttony from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (right on desktop).
Favorite thing about being a cosplayer?
Making new friends who share your interests and passions. This community can absolutely be a welcoming and beautiful place,
Least favorite thing?
Finding space for all the tiny things you absolutely think you will use but never do.
What do you do for work outside of cosplay?
My current job is a manager in a home for people with severe developmental disabilities.
What are your top 3 fandoms?
One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist, Berserk
What cosplay are you planning next?
Senshi from Dungeon Meshi
What’s one piece of advice for new cosplayers?
Don’t be jealous of intimidated by the “more popular” people, they are just as silly as you are and have just as much love and passion. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, everyone does. And don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help if you don’t know, people’s knowledge is an endless resource
Where can people find you on social media?
RealDielCosplay on all social media (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, etc)
