6 Webtoon Adaptations Debuting In The Second Half of 2022

Webtoons continue to increase in popularity as they trend worldwide. With new stories being published weekly it’s no surprise there are more adaptations being released.  As more webtoon snag adaptation deals, we can look forward to more shows and movies hitting the screens this year. Here is the latest roundup of some webtoons set for their adaptations to be released in the second half of 2022.

Today’s Webtoon

Kim Sejong (Business Proposal) will be starring in yet another webtoon adaptation alongside Choi Daniel (The Ghost Detective, High Kick Through the Roof) and Nam Yoon Su (Extracurricular). Today’s Webtoon is based on the manga Juhan Shuttai! by Naoko Matsuda which was previously adapted into the 2016 Japanese drama series “Sleepeeer Hit!” starring Haru Kuroki & Joe Odagiri.

The story follows a woman, On Ma Eum (played by Sejong) who struggles together with her coworkers to mature into a true webtoon editor after joining the webtoon editorial department. On Ma Eum was a former standing member of the judo national team but had to quit her athletic career due to an unfortunate accident. She begins to dream of new opportunities in the webtoon editorial department and hopes to excel in her career. This drama is set to air in December 2022.

Yumi’s Cells 2

Fans can rejoice as the news was announced that Yumi Cells is making a comeback with Season Two this summer!  on webtoon Yumi’s Cells by Lee Dong-Gun. Kim G-Eun and Jin Young will return to reprise their lead roles. Set after Season One the relationship between Kim Yu-Mi and her co-worker Bobby will be explored. Will Kim Yu-Mi find true love? The series is set to premiere in June 2022! In the meantime, you can check out the first season on Viki!

Roppongi Class

 A Japanese remake of the Korean drama Itaewon Class called Roppongi Class is set to hit the small screen this summer. Based on the webtoon of the same name this new remake will be set in the Roppongi area of Tokyo. The drama follows Shin Miyabe who lives an ordinary life with his father. Due to a case of corruption, caused by the son of a family that owns the franchise restaurant Nagaya Holdings, Shin Miyabe’s life completely changes.

Due to this circumstance, Shin decides to take revenge on Nagaya and make them pay for what they did. Ryoma Takeuchi (Love You as the World Ends, Akira and Akira) will star in this TV Asahi drama series as the character of Shin Miyabe. This series is set to be released in July 2022.

Love By Law

Love by Law is a drama series based on the webtoon Beobdaero Saranghara by No Seung-A & Il-Ri. The adaptation will star Lee Seung-Gi( Gu Family Book, Vagabond) and Lee Se-Young (A Korean Odyssey, The Red Sleeve) in the main roles. Kim Jung-Ho (Seung-Gi) used to work as a prosecutor, but, due to his father’s corruption scandal, he quit his job. Kim Jung-Ho and Kim Yoo-Ri (Se-Young) have been friends since they were high school students and he has held a crush on Kim Yoo-Ri for a long time.

Kim Yoo Ri is a beautiful and smart woman who is also driven by justice. Due to an experience with a guy, she has decided to stay single for the rest of her life. She works as a lawyer for a big law firm, but, one day, Kim Yoo-Ri quits her job. She then opens “Law Cafe” in the building that Kim Jung-Ho owns which serves coffee and legal advice. This drama series will air in August 2022.

Borrowed Body

Park Hye-Eun (The School Nurse Files) has been cast in the KakaoTV drama series Borrowed Body alongside Yoon-Soo (Extracurricular, The King’s Affection) & Ryeo Un (18 Again, Homemade Love Story). This drama is based on the webtoon Billin Mom by Park Se-Kye.

Ki Da-Rim (Hye-Eun) is a model high school student who is admired by her classmates. Her childhood friends Lee Sang-Yoo (Yoon-Soo) and Yoon Ho-Young (Ryeo) also attend the same school but because Lee Sang-Yoo was falsely accused in an incident, nobody hangs around him. He also has a crush on Ki Da-Rim. On the other hand, Yoon Ho-Young is a popular student who Ki Da-Rim likes, but Yoon Ho-Young turned her down. One night, Ki Da-Rim and Lee Sang-Yoo throw coins into a fountain and make wishes. After they faint and then they wake up, they find that they have changed bodies.

Borrowed Body will consist of 15 episodes and stream sometime later this year in Korea.

Jinx’s Lover

In Jinx’s Lover, the main character Gong Soo-Gwang sells fish at a traditional market. He is known as an unlucky man and due to this people try to avoid him. After Gong Soo-Gwang met Lee Seul-Bi, his life totally changed because whenever he dreams of Lee Seul-Bi, something bad happens to him. Lee Seul-Bi has a special ability of whenever she touches someone, she can see that person’s near future. Due to this special ability passed down from her mother, they both have lived in captivity for a long time due to a CEO, who uses their special ability. Lee Seul-Bi is able to escape with her mother’s help. Afterward, Gong Soo-Gwang meets Lee Seul-Bi again. What will happen next?

This series will star Na In-Woo (River Where The Moon Rises, Cinderella and the Four Knights) and Girl’s Generation’s Seohyun (Private Lives, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo) The show is based on the webtoon Jinxui Yeonin written by Han Ji-Hye & illustrated by Goo Seul. Jinx’s Lover is set to premiere in June 2022.
