This past weekend, we got the final Conjuring film, or so they say. How did it do? Do people still care? Also, a famous Broadway show hit the big screen, and horror is the biggest story of 2025.
1. The Conjuring: Last Rites blew all expectations out of the water, delivering a debut of 83 million dollars. The movie was originally predicted to make 50 million. The last film in the franchise, which was released in 2021, received mixed reviews and had the lowest opening weekend of all the films. This could also be because COVID was still fresh, and the movie was released the same day as streaming. Still, most believed the third film was inferior to the first two. This new film has middle-of-the-road reviews, but the marketing letting many know that this is the last film, supposedly, may have led many to go check it out. With all the money it has made so far, we shall see if it really is the final installment.
2. Hamilton made 10 million dollars this past weekend. The popular Broadway show, which is already streaming on Disney+, was put into theatres, and many fans showed up. We shall see if it continues to do well.
3. Weapons took in 5.3 million dollars. This really is the year for horror, and this movie is one of the most successful of the year.
4. Freakier Friday took in another 3.8 million dollars. The sequel has done very well and could continue to do well once it hits Disney+.
5. Caught Stealing rounds up the top 5, making 3.2 million dollars. Many people have said the movie is fun, but it doesn’t seem to be a hit at the box office.
