The newest Warriors arc Changing Skies continues later this year with a new name, blurb, and release date. Now coming out November 4th, 2025, the Warriors team revealed everything we need to know about this exciting release.
The news broke in an Instagram post yesterday (February 24th), after they teased the title about a week prior. Many people in the comments and other fan spaces guessed the title would end up being “Hidden Moon,” and they were right. With Moonpaw as a continued main character, and her secret evil sibling (ghost?), this title makes complete sense.
More information is available via an article on the official Warriors page, including, a blurb:
Erin Hunter’s #1 bestselling Warriors series continues with the second book in the Changing Skies arc, as the Clans continue to navigate an ominous prophecy that foreshadows the end of the cats’ connection to StarClan.
Still healing from an accident that almost killed her, Tawnypelt is eager to share the message she received from StarClan about a “great peril” looming over the clans. But her vision is dismissed by her son and leader, Tigerstar, leaving Tawnypelt with no choice but to take action on her own.
Racked with guilt that he caused his father’s death, Starlingpaw is determined to atone for his mistake. His chance comes when Tawnypelt warns him of a “two-faced cat” intent on destroying the clans. Believing himself uniquely suited to find this cat and stop them, Starlingpaw seizes on the opportunity to prove that he is an asset, and not a liability, to SkyClan.
Moonpaw is settling into her role as a ThunderClan apprentice, even as she continues to grapple with the voice in her head. But the more she tries to ignore the voice, the louder—and angrier—it grows.
Meanwhile, Twolegs have set their sights on the Moonpool, preventing the Clans from reaching StarClan. Will the cats find a way to reach their ancestors before all is lost?
Before I even delve into the blurb, I want to discuss the cover. I’ve talked previously about my dislike of a majority of Owen Richardson’s cover designs. They are often over-saturated with lighting and bold color, while having odd mistakes in the background. He also tends to reuse the same cat poses (suspiciously copy and pasted) and I’ve likened his art to AI. This is the first of the new book covers that I love.
Starlingpaw, the main cat on the cover, has a gorgeous badger-like design, reminiscent of the scene where Leafstar mistakes him for a badger, causing his father’s death. His stare is intense and he looks like a cat, whereas the cat on the cover for The Elders’ Quest looks off. The soft pastels are pleasing and eerie, allowing the maroon of the title to stand out. The cats in the background look more dynamic than usual, too.
I’m interested to see if there’s deeper meaning to Crowfeather and Nectarsong being included. Nectarsong is Starlingpaw’s mentor and Crowfeather is Tawnypelt’s new crush, but could they have more reason to be drawn on this cover specifically? Are they simply aiding our main characters or will a journey start to fester?
With little to go on, the biggest shock in this blurb is the lack of Leafstar. I suspected we would get another apprentice POV character in this arc eventually, which makes Starlingpaw unsurprising. Yet, after the cliffhanger The Elders’ Quest left for Leafstar, I’m confused why she’s not a continuous POV. I would love to see the struggle to connect to StarClan from her POV, especially if she can’t renounce her leadership and leads SkyClan when they don’t want her. Instead, we’ll be seeing it through Starlingpaw’s eyes, which I fear won’t be enough.
I’m hoping for a narrow chance that we’ll have four POVs instead with Moonpaw, Tawnypelt, Leafstar, and the addition of Starlingpaw; however, since most blurbs mention all character chapters, it’s unlikely. Including Starlingpaw also means this arc will no longer be only female cats for the point-of-view. I’m suspecting they’ll set up a love story between Moonpaw and Starlingpaw somehow, despite Starlingpaw trying to take her down as part of the prophecy.
Other than enjoying the cover, I feel uneasy about this little teaser. I can’t seem to predict anything from it. I’m withholding judgement until the preview chapters come out, which likely won’t be until September.
