Anson Mount plays Captain Pike on Star Trek Discovery as well as having roles in Hell on Wheels and Inhumans, to name a few. In this panel at the Great Philadelphia Comic Con, he speaks about his roles and answers fan questions.
Anson Mount has done an incredible job portraying Captain Christopher Pike, who had previously been seen in “The Cage,” the first pilot of Star Trek, and “The Menagerie,” a Star Trek the Original Series episode which featured many scenes from the original pilot. Jeffrey Hunter, Sean Kenney and Bruce Greenwood had played the role previously, but in Star Trek Discovery we were able to see Pike after the events of “The Cage” and before his accident that left him crippled. Bruce Greenwood’s version of the character would escape that fate as the timeline had been altered in the new movies. Anson Mount gave the character a depth as the Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise who takes temporary command of the Discovery.
While he has played a variety of parts, his character in Hell on Wheels caused quite the stir and he portrayed Black Bolt in Marvel’s Inhumans, where the challenge was being unable to speak as that character.
Check out this panel where he describes the various roles and his own appreciation as a Star Trek fan.
