Our writers here at Fandom Spotlite may all have their own specialties, but if there’s one thing the three of us have in common, it’s our interest in movies. With so many films coming out this year it’s difficult to choose just one that we’re most excited for, but we did it anyway! Here are our most anticipated movies of 2025!
Gabby – Bambi: The Reckoning
If I’m being honest with myself, the movie I’m actually looking forward to the most in 2025 is Wicked: For Good. But since Wicked: Part One was my top choice for 2024, I’d like to mix things up a little bit. Last year I was introduced to producer Rhys Frake-Waterfield for the first time via Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and its sequel. The first one was flaming hot garbage, but the second one was unironically fantastic (you can read my review of it here). So when I found out that Frake-Waterfield had several more twisted fairy tale films lined up, and that they would take place in something called the “Poohniverse,” I was ecstatic. I’m excited for all of them, but especially Bambi: The Reckoning. I am the type of person that will ALWAYS take the side of the animal over the human, so I am all about the idea of Bambi getting revenge on the hunter that killed his mother. Give ‘em hell, little guy! This movie is guaranteed to be depraved and disgusting, and I’m so here for it. Horror movies don’t often give me nightmares, but from what I’ve seen of this movie so far I have a strong feeling this one is going to do some damage. Wish me luck!
Bambi: The Reckoning is slated for a limited theatrical release in the UK starting February 7th. It is currently unknown if/when it will make it to US screens, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will before the end of 2025.
(Saw XI was my honorable mention last year, but the release date was pushed back by a year so I guess I have to make it an honorable mention for 2025 as well. Hopefully they don’t push it back even more and I won’t have to bring it up again in 2026!)
Hailey – The Bad Guys 2
Last year for 2024, my most anticipated movie was The Fall Guy, which truly ended up being my favorite release. I disclosed then that I rarely see movies in theaters, and it still takes me a while to watch them when they get to streaming services. It’s no surprise that I only recently watched The Bad Guys movie that released in 2022 (bear with me, I’m getting there). After falling in love with it, I can say I am highly anticipating its sequel The Bad Guys 2. With our reformed crime crew Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, and Ms. Tarantula struggling to live in the real world right, they soon find themselves tangled up with the “Bad Girls.” Three new characters, Kitty Kat, Doom, and Pigtail bring in a fresh new job for our “bad guys turned good.” Will they be able to maintain their goodness in the end? Or will this heist remind them how good being bad is? I am particularly excited to see that Diane Foxington will be a returning character as well!
Now, although I am putting The Bad Guys 2 as my top right now, I want to leave wiggle room for another great love of mine: Zootopia 2. Frankly, the only reason it isn’t beating out TBG2 is because of the lack of information. With no trailer and a vague synopsis of Judy and Nick working on a new mystery as cop buddies, I can’t rightly say it’s what I’m anticipating most. It is high on my radar and I expect to love it; however, I am a little worried it won’t live up to Zootopia. Maybe the nerves are another reason it’s not my pick for 2025.
The Bad Guys 2 is set to release on August 1st in theaters as a fun summer movie. Though I never saw The Bad Guys in theaters, I’m looking forward to seeing its sequel there. Months later, Zootopia 2 will be in theaters the day before Thanksgiving, on November 26th.
Honorable mention: Final Destination: Bloodlines (May 16th)
Martin – Superman
Superman has never been my favorite superhero. Honestly I have always found him quite boring. Ironically, the Christopher Reeve Superman movie is one of my favorite superhero movies. I watched it as a kid and it made me feel so happy. It was lighthearted yet had tension. The relationships mattered and as a kid, I believed a man could fly. (I didn’t try to fly so don’t worry.) Superman is a hopeful hero and I don’t feel we have gotten that at all recently. The Snyder movies and that universe were more dark and gritty and lacked a consistent tone and direction. James Gunn is now in charge of DC Studios and as of right now there is no reason to doubt him. He hasn’t made a bad movie. Superman is my most anticipated movie for 2025 because from the look of the trailers and reading how involved Gunn is with everything, it feels like we could finally get Superman done right again. DC movie wise has not even come close to the success of the MCU, even with the lackluster thoughts of their movies recently. This Superman movie matters a great deal and could be the starting point to a successful universe.
Superman flies into theaters in July.
