Disney’s D23 Expo is the mouse’s answer to prominent conventions like Fan Expo and SDCC. During this magical weekend event, the House of Mouse unveils what is to come in the near future and beyond.
2022’s expo has been its biggest one to date, they dropped a substantial amount of trailers from their biggest properties like Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and more.
While we would love to show you all of them. Instead, we are showing you our favorites from D23 Expo.
National Treasure: Edge of History
National Treasure: Edge of History is a reboot/sequel to the film franchise that starred Nic Cage. Edge of History will follow a Latina archeologist, instead of Cage, but fan favorites from the film will be making an appearance in this Disney Plus exclusive.
Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion
Marvel fans have known for some time that Secret Invasion was on the roster. Now we get our first official trailer and this series may be the key to taking the franchise to new heights. Secret Invasion marks there return of Nick Fury and welcomes newcomer Emilia Clarke.
Tales of the Jedi
Next on the list is another Star Wars anthology series. Tales of the Jedi features six new shorts all revolving around the Jedi. These short episodes will include new and old Jedi, providing a deeper insight into the ways of the force and those who defend it. Tales of the Jedi will begin streaming on Disney Plus starting October 26, 2022.
The Little Mermaid
Walt Disney Studios has been taking their classic animated films and revamping them into live-action feature films. None has been more controversial or anticipated than the live-action adaption of The Little Mermaid. Twitter went into a frenzy when it was announced that singer Halle Bailey would be playing Ariel. The trailer above ignited social media again with its jaw-dropping visuals and Halle’s stunning voice. The Little Mermaid swims into theaters on May 26, 2023.
Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation: Werewolf by Night
Disney Plus’ Moon Knight let many fans down, as the show lacked many of the horror elements the comic book series is known for. However, Werewolf by Night may finally give us the marvelous horror we have been craving. The trailer is primarily in black and white adding to its eerieness. This special presentation will arrive just in time for spooky season when it streams on Disney Plus on October 7, 2022.
The Mandalorian Season 3
After The Book of Boba Fett, it is safe to say, we have been craving more Grogu. Season 3 of the Mandalorian is going to serve up more of that precious baby as he goes on a new adventure with his Papa-Mando. From the looks of things, the little green guy is still as mischievous as ever. Season 3 of the Mandalorian will stream sometime in 2023.
Hocus Pocus 2
The Sanderson sisters are ready to have another glorious morning! The cult classic film finally gets a sequel after decades of begging. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reunite for the highly anticipated Disney+ Original Movie “Hocus Pocus 2.” The live-action, long-awaited sequel to the perennial Halloween classic, which brings back the delightfully wicked Sanderson sisters for more comedic mayhem, will debut on Disney+ on September 30.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a pentalogy of fantasy novels written by American author Rick Riordan, and the first book series in the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles. The novels are set in a world with the Greek gods in the 21st century and follow the protagonist Percy Jackson, a young demigod who must prevent the Titans, led by Kronos, from destroying the world. In the series, Percy is accused by Zeus of stealing his lightning bolt. As if he is some sort of lightning thief.
