Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures have confirmed some exciting casting news for the next installment of the Scream franchise.
The upcoming sequel to this year’s Scream will see Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortega all returning.
Barrera and Ortega star in the franchise as Samantha and Tara Carpenter – sisters tormented by the return of Ghostface. While Savoy Brown and Gooding play twin siblings Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin, the nephews of Jamie Kennedy’s original “Scream” character Randy Meeks.
Plot details remain under wraps but the production companies have said the new feature “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”
Confirmation of the lead characters leaving Woodsboro could see the franchise go in a whole new direction. All previous entries have been set in the town, so moving to a new location could make for some exciting changes ahead.
The creative team behind the untitled “Scream 6” is already in place and working on the film. Radio Silence’s Matt Betinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back to direct, with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick also returning to co-write the screenplay.
The upcoming release will mark the sixth entry into the franchise. The first four films, directed by the late maestro of horror Wes Craven, earned $600 million at the box office, with “Scream” (2022) scaring up more than $140 million worldwide after its release in January.
Principal photography is slated to begin in the summer, with the film set to release on March 31st, 2023.
“Scream” (2022) is currently streaming on Paramount+ and is available on Digital, DVD, and Blu Ray.
