The first teaser for Wonder Woman 2 is here.
A recent Facebook cover image uploaded by Wonder Woman 2 co-writer/producer Geoff Johns suggests that the film will either be titled ‘Wonder Woman: 84′ or ‘Wonder Woman: 1984′. The image which says “WW84” is depicted in a retro/VHS aesthetic, supposedly a reference to the film being set in America during the 1980s.
Although ‘WW84′ may seem a little ambiguous, it is unlikely that “WW” would stand for anything other than “Wonder Woman”. The attached numbers “84” also appear in line with news from DNW that Warner Bros recently purchased the following website domain names:
- wonderwoman1980.com – wonderwoman1989.com (including the domain wonderwoman1984.com)
- wonderwomanarrives.com
- wonderwomancheetah.com
- wonderwomanlives.com
- wonderwomanminerva.com
- wonderwomanpart2.com
- wonderwomanpartii.com
- wonderwomanreturns.com
- wonderwomanrises.com
While Warner Bros. have yet to release an official synopsis, returning director Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman (2017), Monster (2003)) has confirmed that Cheetah (portrayed by Kristen Wiig) will be the film’s primary antagonist. Although Cheetah’s comic book origins are varied, she is most known for her third incarnation as Barbara Ann Minerva, an archeologist and former friend to Wonder Woman. In Barbara’s New 52 (2011) origin, she became the bloodthirsty human/animal hybrid know as Cheetah after being cut by a cursed blade.
Wonder Woman 2 is also set to film in Landmark Mall, an abandoned shopping mall in Alexandria. Although unconfirmed for the film, local casting agencies have been making calls for a “major film” who wants extras dressed as mall employees as well as protestors, citing “hippies, war vets, punks” as examples.
Wonder Woman 2 projects a late 2019 release date.
