The collaboration between Bonkers Toys and Warrior Cats was teased and then confirmed at the end of last year. With the craze of mystery boxes and bags, it’s no surprise that the infamous cat franchise jumped on the bandwagon. Since their release in December, I’ve seen oodles of hype across social media and tons of sold out shelves.
Bonkers Toys releases toys in Walmart, Target, Amazon, and Five Below. While the initial launch was only in Walmart (prompting some insanity and the selling-out/scalping), I’ve seen their release expanded to Target and Amazon.
Three products were released: mystery figures, large mystery plush, and mini mystery plush. The figures include eight possibilities with Firestar, Scourge, Graystripe, Silverstream, Brightheart, Cinderpelt, Yellowfang, and Spottedleaf. Then, the large plush includes only Firestar, Scourge, Graystripe, and Brightheart while the mini plush have those plus Hawkfrost, Brambleclaw, Yellowfang, and Tallstar.
With my main interest being the figures, I strove to collect them all through the boxes and one trade. Since I haven’t collected all the plush, I’m only reviewing the figures. Keep reading to discover my thoughts!

Before diving into the individual characters, I want to talk about some overall feelings.
Mass produced figures often have misprint issues where the paint jobs are slightly off. All of the figures I got have some sort of “issue,” like Firestar’s paw pad colors not being aligned, stray paint marks on Graystripe’s face and body, or the seam between Spottedleaf’s head and neck not being fully closed. I’ve definitely seen some reports of larger misprint issues, like wonky eyes and scratched away stripes.
I’m not bothered by them much, since the general essence of the figure is what I seek. Some fans even seem to find them cute or silly enough to cherish these mistakes.
Frankly, my only real problem with the figures is the size discrepancy. Firestar and Graystripe are humongous compared to the rest, especially the smallest figures like Scourge and Spottedleaf. If they were slightly sized down, it’d be better, since the comparison between Cinderpelt and Brightheart isn’t as glaring.
I presume the reason for this is so the boxes weigh differently, allowing people to figure out tricks for identification. However, I think it’d be better if they used weighted tokens, like other mystery boxes do, instead. Or… make the size differences a little less drastic.
Firestar

The fandom’s highlighter orange tom strikes again (this is who he is now, don’t try to fight it…). At least he’s one of the most recognizable characters this way, even if I was struggling to photograph him in the sun. My favorite part of his design is the snaggletooth; paired with the determined brows, he looks like a little fighter.
The forehead flame symbol is iconic to his character, too. Even though I don’t have much to complain about, his figure also isn’t superb. It’s very middle of the road, “yeah, that makes sense.”
Graystripe

Graystripe’s figure is my least favorite, not for any particular reasons, just that I don’t love his character so his figure doesn’t spark any joy for me. I appreciate that he has multiple layers of gray, as well as a dark stripe down his back. The eyes are a little too orange for me, but I like the depth of having multiple shades. His pose and facial expression are the plainest of the bunch.
His best feature is definitely the eyebrows. They give more to his design than anything, with a little added furriness.
Yellowfang

The grumpiest she-cat of them all, Yellowfang looks perfect. The laying down posture reminds me of her first appearance, when Firepaw had to look after her. The scrunched/smushed face is one of her most iconic features and nicely presented here. Plus, she gets a little snaggletooth! This is similar to Firestar’s figure, which is cute considering their found-family type relationship.
She is one of the only figures (besides Brightheart, of course), that gets scars. I like that they made her scars darker to blend in with her fur color. Her eyes being nearly red is a great stylistic choice, too. It’s lovely when creative freedom is used for the characters designs, even if they’re unrealistic.
Scourge

The award for best pose goes to the edgy boy himself, Scourge! I love how skinny and small they made him, with his extended claws and one white paw. His open maw makes me so happy since 99% of the figures we’ve gotten of Warriors have closed mouths or are holding something in their mouths.
I might be a purple collar supremacist for Scourge, but I know the team has committed to a more reddish color. I’m simply relieved to see it is darker and more burgundy here. As for his purple-tinted blue eyes, I’m conflicted. It’s cool they’re having fun with it, but I prefer when his are more of an icy blue.
Brightheart

Almost more notorious than Firestar at this point, seeing Brightheart included in the figures line up (and plush) is no surprise. This style does her justice, though, compared to the Warriors branded mini figures. You can better see her scarring and her lost eye has more dimension to the wound.
Her colors are nicely balanced too, with the stark white compared to the orange of her tabby patches. I’m happy they gave her this cutesy pose as well. The little head tilt and paw raise gives her a some cheekiness.
Silverstream

Silverstream’s figure has that smooth and slender elegance to it that her character is known for. Her mold in general is great, with a sharp, more angular head and cheekbones. It makes her stand out against the stockier ThunderClan cats in this series.
I personally don’t love the blue tint to her silver fur, I would’ve liked a grayer base than that, but I’m ecstatic they decided to go with black stripes for her tabby pattern. I love seeing silver tabbies with black stripes. Her eyes are actually more of what I figured it’d be for Scourge, but still look lovely for her.
Cinderpelt

What I love about Warriors figures is the variety in cats of the same base color. For Cinderpelt, she’s more of a brownish gray than straight gray. I might personally see her as a different shade, but it’s a great design in general, especially with the interesting lighter colored markings. The flower in her mouth is a lovely medicine cat addition, too.
I’m also happy they didn’t hide her leg injury and made it look actually twisted. In the Warrior Cat Store’s mini figure of Cinderpelt, her leg injury is not obvious at all. The design for this one is much better, though it could’ve been strengthened by putting some scarring around it.
Spottedleaf

The rare queen herself (literally, she was the rare on the box) only came to me through a trade (my duplicate Firestar for their duplicate Spottedleaf, thank you again trader!!). She is arguably the cutest pose and figure, with her reaching for the stars and the “fire alone” prophecy shooting stars in her amber eyes. It is very reminiscent of the illustration from The Prophecies Begin graphic novel adaptations by Sara Goetter and Natalie Riess.
She might not be my favorite character, but the figure definitely did her justice. I would agree with her being the “rare” option too.

As for the choice in characters, I’m satisfied. While I feel bad for the lack of Ravenpaw and the villainous Tigerstar, it’s great to see Silverstream included. It’s also a guarantee to see characters like Firestar, Graystripe, Brightheart, and Scourge at this point, considering how much merchandise has been made of them already.
With the popularity of this Bonkers collaboration, I expected we would see Series 2 soon. Very recently, the Warriors Wiki on X tweeted this teaser image:

While I did predict they might move to The New Prophecy characters, which is evidenced by Squirrelflight and Feathertail in the middle, I am disappointed we might not get anymore from The Prophecies Begin. It would’ve been great to see some of the leaders, like Bluestar and Crookedstar, or side characters like Ravenpaw or Sandstorm.
If they did all the protagonists from TNP, that would be Brambleclaw, Squirrelflight, Tawnypelt, Stormfur, Feathertail, Crowfeather, and Leafpool, leaving one spot open. Since the teaser mentions “characters” from ShadowClan, I wonder if we’ll get Tigerstar. I wouldn’t be upset if some of the protags from TNP were skipped this time, namely Stormfur or Crowfeather, to leave room for different characters.
I’m less likely to go for the mini plush, unless I hunt for Jayfeather. As for the collectible charms… I will collect them all regardless. All we have to do now is wait for more teasers and announcements!
I find myself wondering what this means for the mini figures and plush available on the Warrior Cats shop website? Since the Bonkers collab, they’ve been radio silent. I’m suspicious that contractually, the Warriors team isn’t allowed to make and sell their own. To be seen, I suppose.
