With just one week until the film’s release, promotional work for the latest installment of the Scream franchise continues. The latest sees Courtney Cox’s Gale Weathers return in a faux news report that chronicles the bloody history of Woodsboro.
The legacy of Ghostface is highlighted, with original killers Billy Loomis and Stu Macher included in the marketing of the film for the first time. During the report, Gale says “The town of Woodsboro continues to be haunted by its tragic past,” as “a mysterious figure is on the prowl once more…”
Gale Weathers continues to inspire an entirely new generation of investigative minds. I wonder why Sarah doesn’t think so… 👀

The fifth installment of the franchise promises to honor the legacy of the films whilst embracing the future. Its synopsis reads:
“Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.”
Legacy characters Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) will also return and the pair have spoken recently about reuniting for the film. Campbell stated:
“We had a lot of fun on the first one, it really was like being on summer camp. And it feels like when we get back together it always feels the same like we’re getting back to summer camp. It’s a blast.”
Campbell continues and explains that Sidney is in a good place in her life when audiences see her again after a decade.
“She’s a mother now, which I think gives her a whole other level of fierceness. She’s content and then of course chaos ensues because it is a Scream movie…It’s all the things you want from a Scream movie. I don’t think people will be disappointed.”
When asked about his favorite memory of playing Woodsboro Sheriff Dwight ‘Dewey’ Riley, Arquette spoke about working with his father Lewis, who died in 2001.
“On Scream 2, I got to work with my father [who played Chief Hartley] and that was really like a dream come true. And then Mad Magazine did a little cartoon of me and my dad. It was fun!”
The film will also see Marley Shelton return as Deputy Judy Hicks, with Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Dylan Minette, and Jack Quaid all newcomers to the franchise.
Scream releases exclusively in cinemas on January 14th.
Who will be the killer behind the mask this time around?
