July is over, and August is here. Usually, August, while still Summer, isn’t the biggest month for movies. The big Summer blockbusters are dying down, and we get a lot of random things. So, with this news, Fantastic Four should be doing amazing, right? Not exactly. Also, how did Bad Guys 2 and Naked Gun do? Here are your weekend box office results.
1. Fantastic Four: First Steps made 40 million dollars in its second weekend. This is good enough to land it in the top spot, but it is a huge drop from week 1. This is somewhat surprising since it seemed like Fantastic Four didn’t have much competition after its release. The movie is on pace to make about 550 million dollars worldwide. This is still a good number, but for this type of film, it’s a little disappointing. It could be that, despite great reviews, audiences just might be getting tired of superhero movies.
2. The Bad Guys 2 made 22.2 million dollars. This is on par with what the original movie did. While not a huge success, this sequel should still turn a profit. The good reviews help as well.
3. The Naked Gun made 17 million dollars in its opening weekend. This was slightly ahead of projections. The movie didn’t cost much to make, and similar to The Bad Guys 2, this movie should turn a profit. The reviews have also been insanely good.
4. Superman took in 13.9 million dollars. The movie continues to steadily make money. It’s a feel-good, entertaining comic book film. The movie has now grossed over 550 million dollars worldwide.
5. Jurassic World: Rebirth took in another 8.7 million dollars. The movie has made almost 800 million worldwide, but it does seem to be cooling down recently. The previous 3 movies have all crossed over 1 billion dollars. Even though this movie has made a ton of money, maybe audiences are just beginning to want something new.
