This past weekend was a huge test to see if Superman had enough good word of mouth. Did it? We also had a sequel to a fan-favorite ’90s slasher, and how come no one cares about The Smurfs anymore? These are your weekend box office results.
1. Superman remained at the top of the box office in its second weekend, making 57 million dollars. This is a good second-week number, and it must be due to positive reviews and good word of mouth. The movie continues to struggle internationally, but Superman has never been popular outside of the United States. Still, DC has to be happy with the anticipation for what comes next.

2. Jurassic World: Rebirth made another 23.4 million dollars. The movie continues to make money despite poor reviews. People honestly just love dinosaurs. The movie has now almost reached 700 million dollars.

3. I Know What You Did Last Summer made 13 million dollars in its first weekend of release. The movie hasn’t necessarily gotten good reviews, but the original didn’t either, and that didn’t stop it from being a hit with horror fans. The movie only cost 18 million to make, so it should still become a moderate success at the end of its theatrical run.

4. Smurfs made 11 million dollars in its first weekend. This isn’t a surprise. Previous Smurf movies were not cash cows, and this movie was coming out between Superman and Fantastic Four. The reviews also have not been good at all. Worldwide, the movie has made 36 million dollars against a 58 million dollar budget. With Fantastic Four coming out this weekend, it looks like it will be very difficult for Smurfs to make a profit.

5. F1: The Movie took in another 9.6 million dollars. This is a nice win for Apple. Good reviews and word of mouth have helped carry this one. The movie is almost at 500 million dollars worldwide.

Join us next week to see how well Fantastic Four does.
