Yet another Stephen King adaptation is on the way with Universal and Blumhouse teaming to bring us a new Firestarter. The film is based on the novel of the same name and is a reboot of the 1984 film adaptation.
This new adaptation of the classic supernatural horror follows a young girl with extraordinary pyrokinetic powers fighting to protect her family and herself from sinister forces that seek to capture and control her.
Directed by Keith Thomas from a screenplay by Scott Teems, Firestarter will star Zac Efron and Sydney Lemmon as the parents of daughter Charlie, played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong (IT Chapter Two, American Horror Story.)
Check out the trailer below.
The film also stars Kurtwood Smith (Amityville: The Awakening, Hitchcock), John Beasley (The Purge: Anarchy), and Gloria Reuben (Lincoln, Mr. Robot).
Legendary filmmaker John Carpenter composes the film alongside fellow Halloween franchise composers Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. This is an interesting turn of events given Carpenter was originally set to direct the 1984 version. Carpenter ultimately departed the project which starred a young Drew Barrymore.
Jason Blum and Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman will reunite to produce the film. The pair previously collaborated on the Paranormal Activity franchise.
Firestarter will release simultaneously in theatres and on Peacock, May 13th, 2022.
