Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy Leaving Netflix for Amazon

Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy, the creative duo behind Netflix’s hit horror releases The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Midnight Club, have signed an exclusive multiyear series deal with Amazon Studios.

The news comes to us via Deadline, which reports that the duo will develop and produce projects exclusively for Prime Video moving forward, ending their long-standing relationship with the streaming giant.

Flanagan and Macy, who operate under the production banner Intrepid Pictures, have become prolific genre creators over the years and have delivered some of horror’s finest work, on both the small and big screen. Alongside their collection of series on Netflix, the duo is responsible for big-screen releases like Oculus, Hush, and Doctor Sleep.

The switch from one streaming giant to another comes as a result of Intrepid Pictures’ deal with Netflix coming to an end. Deadline confirms that the duo did meet with numerous studios and streamers, but opted to make Amazon their new TV home.

Speaking more on the news, Flanagan and Macy shared their excitement for working with Amazon, saying:

“Amazon is a studio that we have long admired. Their commitment to engaging in groundbreaking series and content aligns with the ethos of what we have built at Intrepid. We are looking forward to working with the entire Amazon team as we bring our brand of genre productions to the service and audiences around the globe.”

Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios, added his excitement for the collaboration, saying:

“Mike and Trevor are remarkable at telling immersive, suspenseful stories that masterfully keep audiences engaged from start to finish. We are excited to welcome them to Amazon Studios and are looking forward to our global customers experiencing their genre-bending creativity.”

Before leaving Netflix, Flanagan and Macy will deliver one final tale of horror with the release of The Fall of the House of Usher – a brand new series based on the classic works of Edgar Allan Poe, which is set to release in 2023.
