This past weekend’s box office was hard to predict. Snow White has been in the news for a while now, and not exactly for the right reasons. Did it prove to be the fairest of them all? Kind of. The rest of the box office wasn’t too much of a surprise, as it seems like movie theatres are still struggling so far this year.
1. Snow White made enough money to land in first place at the box office. The movie made 43 million dollars opening weekend which is not what Disney was hoping for. Did it get first place? Yes. But it still did poorly. Critics and audience scores are down despite early buzz and it seems that controversy has indeed hurt the film. Minecraft comes out in 2 weeks which can be a draw for families so it doesn’t seem like Snow White will have legs going forward. I sound like a broken record but it also doesn’t help that the budget for the movie is around 270 million dollars.
2. Black Bag took in 4.4 million dollars. Soderbergh made two well-reviewed movies this year but unfortunately, they haven’t done amazing at the box office.
3. Captain America: Brave New World made 4.1 million dollars. The Marvel movie has managed to remain in the top 5 but it still doesn’t seem it will make back its budget.
4. Mickey 17 made 3.9 million dollars. There is a theme here of movies not making back their budget, which is unfortunate.
5. Novocaine made 3.7 million dollars. The Jack Quaid-led action comedy is the only movie on this list to make back its budget despite not being a big hit. The movie is a good time for sure if you haven’t seen it.
