This past weekend, Thunderbolts* did pretty well for its very important second weekend. Sinners continues to make money, and a horror book adaptation does very well. Here are your box office results.
1. Thunderbolts* took in 33.1 million dollars in its second weekend. Word of mouth seemed to help, with many saying this is the best Marvel movie in years. The movie hasn’t done outrageous numbers, but what I feel is most important right now, going forward, is trust. Quality over quantity. At the moment, Marvel is heading in the right direction.
2. Sinners made 21 million dollars this past weekend. The movie is one of the best-reviewed of the year, and this is a great win for original storytelling.
3. A Minecraft Movie made 7.9 million. The movie continues to surprise at the box office. I used to believe it would crack a billion dollars, but it does seem to be slowing down, and with Lilo & Stitch being released soon it seems like Minecraft might finally be gone.
4. The Accountant 2 took in 6 million dollars. The movie has done well for itself, considering it is a sequel that not many people knew they wanted.
5. Clown in a Cornfield is the biggest surprise this weekend. The horror novel adaptation made 3.6 million dollars on its opening weekend. You may think that this isn’t much, but the movie wasn’t released in every theatre. Also, the budget is reported to be under 1 million dollars. This is a great win for horror.
