To those before, to those after. To us now, and to those beyond: welcome to THE MIDNIGHT CLUB
Netflix has released the official trailer for its latest horror series, The Midnight Club – which you can check out below.
The series comes to us from Mike Flanagan, the creator of hit Netflix series like The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass, and will be an adaptation of Christopher Pike’s young adult novels of the same name.
Flanagan’s impressive portfolio of work also includes big-screen successes like Gerald’s Game, Hush and The Shining sequel, Doctor Sleep. All of these received high praise from both critics and fans alike.
A synopsis for The Midnight Club reads:
A group of terminally ill teenage patients resides at Brightcliffe Hospice, and together they create the Midnight Club. They meet in secret at midnight to tell horror stories. Together the group forms a pact, that whoever dies first would make the effort to contact the rest of the Midnight Club members from beyond the grave.
The series will star Iman Benson, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Annarah Cymone, William Chris Sumpter, Adia, Aya Furukawa, Sauriyan Sapkota, Matt Biedel, Samantha Sloyan, Zach Gilford and A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Heather Langenkamp – who will play the enigmatic doctor presiding over the hospice.
While the source material is aimed at a younger audience, Flanagan has indicated that the horror will not be toned down for younger viewers. Speaking in a previous interview with Empire magazine, the director spoke about the assumptions they took with younger viewers being able to handle scares, as well as referencing Pike’s appetite for a darker tone:
“He wrote some pretty advanced stuff for his younger readers, and it was not at all uncommon for his teenage characters to die, pretty shockingly. His books were full of things I found really exciting and thrilling and dark.”
Flanagan’s previous work in the horror genre should be enough to generate excitement for the series, but the official trailer adds even more, giving us a spine-chilling look at what he’s cooked up next.
The Midnight Club’s 10-episode series will arrive on Netflix on October 7th.
