We’re only three days into a brand new year and the big horror reveals are already coming. 2023 has many exciting projects on the way, but one of the lips of many is the return of the Evil Dead franchise, and today we got our first look at the film with the release of an official teaser – which you can check out below.
Introduced by franchise legend, Bruce Campbell, the first-look teaser offers up a look at one scene from the film before confirming that a full trailer will land tomorrow! Speaking more about the release, Campbell (who serves as a producer for the film) teases that he has now seen the film and that it is “amazing,” and “the scariest one yet.”
Campbell, who has appeared in all previous Evil Dead entries as the character of Ash Williams, will not appear in the film, as Evil Dead Rise will instead tell a brand new story with a brand new set of characters.
An official synopsis for the film reads:
“In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
This fifth installment of the Evil Dead franchise was set to release exclusively on HBO Max, but the decision was made to release the film theatrically after it received strong responses from early test screenings.
The film will star Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, and Gabrielle Echols.
Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground) is tasked with directing and writing the script.
Evil Dead Rise is set to land in theatres on April 21st.
