Over the years WWE has looked to move their sports entertainment product beyond the ring into new areas, even establishing their own film production studio. Releases like The Condemned, The Marine, and See No Evil were met with mixed reviews but the company has continued to look at new ways of innovating its portfolio.
With fans left to watch the product from home during the heights of the Covid pandemic, WWE looked at alternative ways of bringing fresh, and entertaining content to its viewers.
One of the unorthodox matchups we got saw The Undertaker face AJ Styles in a Boneyard Match – a match that took place entirely around the confines of a spooky graveyard farmhouse. This extension of cinematic content looks to have heightened their desire to try new things.
Escape The Undertaker sees WWE team up with streaming giant Netflix to bring fans of both Wrestling and Horror a rare interactive movie experience, that puts the viewer in charge of the outcome.
The film stars WWE legend The Undertaker alongside new WWE Champion Big E and his fellow New Day members Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods.
The synopsis reads as follows.
“The Undertaker has set a trap for the decorated tag team The New Day at his mansion. What they don’t know: The Undertaker’s mansion is an extreme Haunted House, packed to the brim with supernatural challenges. It’s up to viewers to decide the fate of these three poor souls trying to survive the wrath of The Undertaker.”
Escape the Undertaker will premiere on Netflix on October 5, 2021.
