January is over but not before we get a last box office weekend for the month. A children’s book series dominates. Horror is alive and well and Mufasa just won’t die. Here are your weekend box office results.
1. Dog Man took the number one spot this weekend bringing in 36 million dollars. This is a big hit for Dreamworks as the movie has already made back its budget. It isn’t too much of a surprise since it’s a new family movie and it already has a fan base being based on the best-selling book series by Dav Pilkey.
2. Companion earned 9.5 million dollars taking second place. The new horror film has excellent reviews and seems to be the first great horror movie of the year. With a budget of only 10 million dollars, horror is alive and well.
3. Mufasa took in another 6.1 million dollars. Even with the mixed reviews, this movie continues to make money. There is a reason Disney keeps releasing live-action versions of their classic movies.
4. One of Them Days took in 6 million dollars. The Keke Palmer and SZA-led comedy has been very successful and has gotten rave reviews.
5. Flight Risk made 5.6 million this weekend. The Mark Wahlberg movie has gotten some pretty bad reviews and hasn’t made its money back yet. Also, what is up with that haircut?
