This past weekend the juggernaut that is Deadpool & Wolverine was finally dethroned by none other than Alien: Romulus. It Ends With Us did very well in its second weekend and a 15-year-old animated film found its way into the top 5. Here are your top 5 domestic weekend box office results.
1. Alien: Romulus surpassed expectations bringing in about 41.5 million dollars taking the number one spot. The film has been a huge hit with critics and audiences alike. The movie has been considered by many to be the best Alien movie since Aliens in 1986. Practical effects and a tense-filled atmosphere help.
2. Deadpool & Wolverine may have been dethroned but it is still out here bringing in incredible numbers. It took in another 29 million dollars and it doesn’t seem like it will be leaving the top 5 anytime soon.
3. It Ends With Us surprised everyone bringing in 50 million dollars in its opening weekend. The second weekend did not disappoint racking up another 24 million dollars. The total worldwide is now close to 200 million dollars.
4. Twisters took in another 9.8 million dollars. The movie is consistently making money and has been a summer success. Early concerns were the movie may be too similar to the original, but if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.
5. Coraline returned to theatres due to Fathom Events and people showed up. The movie managed to bring in about 8.4 million dollars over the weekend. This is huge. Released in 2009, Coraline became a cult classic and it seems tons of fans flocked out.
In other movie news, Borderlands dropped all the way to 10th place making only another 2.3 million dollars. The total now worldwide is around 21 million dollars. It does seem this might be one of the biggest bombs of all time.
Next week’s box office should be interesting. The new Channing Tatum thriller Blink Twice and the already hated remake of The Crow come out. Tune in next Monday to see the results.
