Christmas is a time to be with family and spread some cheer. It is a time to think about others and give more. It is a time to be thankful for things and people and spread love and positivity. It is also a time to watch horror movies. Okay, maybe that is not the norm for everyone but there are some great Christmas horror films out there. We know the famous ones such as Gremlins and Black Christmas but what about others that deserve some recognition? Here are 5 Christmas movies you probably have never seen.
1. Anna and the Apocalypse
Anna and the Apocalypse is just delightful. Anna must save her friends and father when zombies take over her school during the holidays. This is a zombie Christmas musical and it does every aspect so well. All the songs are very catchy and advance the story nicely. When it comes to zombie horror, the movie also does a pretty good job. There are plenty of scenes with tension and a lot of emotion as well. The movie is fun, well-written, and honestly one of the best musicals and zombie films ever.
2. Inside
While Anna and the Apocalypse is delightful, Inside from 2007 is gut-wrenching, but in the best way possible. The movie follows a pregnant woman on Christmas just minding her own business. Suddenly, a lady shows up at her house to kill our protagonist and take her unborn baby. Why? You have to watch to find out.
Inside is bloody, thought-provoking, and a straight-up adrenaline ride. This French film is filled with intense moments that will leave you watching through your fingers this holiday season.
3. Dead End
Unfortunately, few have seen this, even though it stars horror scream queen Lin Shaye. The story involves a family traveling for Christmas Eve who decide to take a shortcut. Once they do, they come upon a dark and horrifying road that not only messes with their mind but also doesn’t seem to end or go anywhere.
Dead End is creepy, well-acted, and sure to mess with your head. It’s sadly a forgotten horror film and it definitely shouldn’t be.
4. The Christmas Tale
Five kids find a woman dressed as Santa stuck in the bottom of a pit in the woods. They find out she’s a dangerous criminal with a bunch of money. The kids want her money and decide to keep her stuck until she reveals where the money is. The kids are in danger, though, once the woman escapes.
This is a fun Christmas horror film. We often root for the kids in these types of movies, but the kids here are jerks. It’s a creepy, sometimes humorous movie that is worth seeking out.
The Children
Two families decide to get together during Christmas time in an upscale estate. Once there, the children start becoming randomly sick and no one understands why. It turns out that the children somehow have contracted a disease that turns them into brutal psychotic killers.
This movie is awesome. It is easily one of the better killer kids’ movies. This one has many effective scares; from beginning to end, it is just a well-made horror film.
