4 New Exciting Webtoon Adaptations Announced For 2023

Webtoons continue to increase in popularity as they trend worldwide. With new stories being published weekly it’s no surprise there are more adaptations being released.  As more webtoon snag adaptation deals, we can look forward to more shows and movies hitting the screens next year. Here is the latest roundup of some webtoons set for their adaptations to be released sometime in 2023.

The Deal

Thriller fans will want to tune into The Deal based on the webcomic titled, Georae by Woo Nam 20. This series is scheduled to be available to stream next year in Korea. This crime series is reported to be eight episodes long and the story follows three high school alumni Jun Sung, Jae Hyo, and Min Woo getting together after a long time to get drinks. The story further unfolds when Jun Sung and Jae Hyo pretend to be Min Woo’s kidnappers, which takes their reunion into a darker turn. Yoo Seung-Ho (I’m Not a Robot), Kim Dong-Hwi (Missing: The Other Side 2), and Yoo Su-Bin (Crash Landing On You) have been cast as the lead roles in this drama series.

It’s a Good Day To Be a Dog

Park Gyu-Young (Sweet Home) has been cast for the lead female role in the drama series A Good Day to Be a Dog co-starring actors Cha Eun-Woo (True Beauty) & Lee Hyun-Woo (The Beauty Inside). Based on the webtoon Onueldo Sarangseureobgae by Lee Hye the series has already started filming as of October 2022. The story follows a young woman named Ha-na (played by Park Gyu-Young) who bears a family curse that causes her to turn into a dog whenever she is kissed. The curse can only be broken with a second kiss from a young man named Jin Seo-won (Cha Eun-Woo) with whom she shared her first kiss. The twist? Seo-won has had a deep fear of dogs since his childhood. No release date has been set for this series as of yet.

Is It a Coincidence

Based on the webcomic Wooyeonilgga? written by Nam Ji-Eun & illustrated by Kim In-Ho, the drama series Is It a Coincidence will premiere in 2023. The series will have eight episodes in total but no release date has been given as of yet. Kim So-Hyun (Love Alarm, While You Were Sleeping) will play the female lead character, Lee Hong-Ju who works as a PD for animation productions. Due to scars from a love she had in the past, she is afraid of falling in love again. One day things turn around for her when she accidentally meets her first love Kang Hu-Young for the first time in 10 years. Will she be able to truly fall in love again?

Sweet and Spicy Chicken

Heading to Netflix in 2023 is the drama series Sweet and Spicy Chicken based on the webtoon Dakgangjeong by Park Ji-Dok. The series is being directed by Lee Byeong-Hun known for working on drama series such as Be Melodramatic. Ryoo Seung-Ryong (Kingdom), and Ahn Jae-Hong (Fight For My Way), will play lead characters in the show along with a special appearance by actress Kim You-Jung (Backstreet Rookie). In this series, a father (played by Ryoo Seung-Ryong) runs a machine company. One day his daughter, Cho Min Ah (Kim You-Jung) gets into a machine at his workplace, that was just delivered, but the machine turns her into a piece of sweet and spicy fried chicken. What will happen next? Is it possible to bring Choi Min Ah back to life?
