2025 Horror Movie Guide

2024 was another good year for horror movies. Alien made a strong comeback. Nicolas Cage creeped everyone out. Demi Moore injected herself with a substance and Art the Clown dominated the box office. There are a lot of interesting movies to look forward to in 2025, especially in the horror genre. Here is your horror movie guide for 2025.

Wolf Man (January 17th)

Blake and his family are attacked by an unseen animal and retreat to a farmhouse. During the night though, Blake begins to transform into something unrecognizable.

Blumhouse and Ryan Gosling are producing this one, and it’s the first big horror of 2025. Leigh Whannell successfully directed The Invisible Man, and many loved his modern take. It wouldn’t be surprising if this take on the classic universal monster is also successful.

Grafted (January 24th)

Wei is a Chinese scholarship student determined to change her fate. She is working on a new skin grafting procedure to cure her facial birthmark. She is willing to do whatever it takes to get everything to work.

This one has an interesting premise and will be released by Shudder. Shudder had an insanely good 2024 so look for the same in 2025.

Presence (January 24th)

A family moves into a suburban home and is soon convinced they are not alone.

Honestly, this sounds like a simple plot we have seen many times before. The interesting here is this is a horror movie directed by Steven Soderbergh, a well-known director who doesn’t do horror. There is also early positive buzz for this one. Something to look forward to.

Companion (January 31st)

A billionaire’s death sets up a wild chain of events for Iris and her friends.

This one could be something bizarre and special. Produced by the people that brought you Barbarian and stars Jack Quaid from The Boys and Scream 5 as well as Sophie Thatcher from Heretic.

Heart Eyes (February 7th)

Heart Eyes is about a masked killer who stalks and kills romantic couples on Valentine’s Day.

This one is directed by Josh Ruben who previously directed the underrated Wereolves Within. This one sounds like a lot of fun and stars Mason Gooding, Olivia Holt and Scream King Devon Sawa.

The Monkey (February 21st)

When twin brothers Bill and Hal find their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of deaths start.

Longlegs was one of the most successful horror movies of 2024 and now director Oz Perkins gives us The Monkey. The plot sounds very intriguing and the movie is based on a short story written by master of horror Stephen King.

Opus ( March 14th)

A pop star returns to the spotlight after decades of isolation.

There isn’t too much information about this one except that it is described as a horror/musical. The cast is pretty stacked honestly. The cast consists of the incredibly talented Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Juliette Lewis, and Amber Midthunder.

The Woman in the Yard (March 28th)

A mysterious woman appears in a family’s front yard and leaves terrifying unsettling messages.

Blumhouse is producing this one. The movie is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who previously directed the Netflix hit Carry On. He is no stranger to horror, having directed movies such as Orphan and House of Wax. The movie stars the great Danielle Deadwyler.

Drop (April 11th)

Violet is a widowed mother on a date with the charming Henry. She receives a phone call from a mysterious figure who tells her that her son and sister will die unless she kills Henry.

This seems like it could be a fun horror/thriller from Universal Pictures. It also comes from director Christopher Landon, who is responsible for Happy Death Day and Freaky.

The Ritual (April 18th)

Two priests must put their differences aside to save the life of a possessed young woman.

Little is known about the plot and cast so far. The movie will star Dan Stevens and Al Pacino. Al Pacino playing a priest could be fun.

Sinners ( April 18th)

Twin brothers return home to start anew, only to discover a much greater evil is waiting for them.

We believe the threat here is vampires. The movie teams up Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan again. The movie also stars Hailee Steinfeld and by the look of the trailers, this one looks exciting.

Until Dawn ( April 25th)

A group of friends spend the weekend in a ski lodge on the anniversary of their friend’s disappearance. They soon realize they are not alone.

This movie is an adaptation of a very popular video game. It is directed by David F. Sandberg who previously directed Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation.

Clown in a Cornfield (May 9th)

A father and daughter move to a small town that has seen better days. There is a dark mystery surrounding the town and it all leads back to the town’s mascot Frendo the Clown. Soon someone dressed as Frendo goes on a killing spree.

This movie is based on the popular novel written by Adam Cesare. I am really excited about this one as it was possibly my favorite book that I read last year. The story has many twists and turns and it will be exciting to see it on the big screen.

Final Destination: Bloodlines ( May 16th)

The plot is said to center around an 18-year-old girl who discovers that death is following her family despite her grandmother’s escape from death in the 1960’s.

It is so exciting that we are getting a new Final Destination movie in 2025. It has been 14 years since the last installment and we are due. This is also a nice twist on the regular formula. The movie stars Brec Bassinger and the late Tony Todd. It is believed that Tony Todd was able to film his scenes before his passing.

The Life of Chuck ( May 30th)

The movie tells the tale of Chuck’s life backwards starting with the end and showing all that he has been through.

The movie is based on the short story by Stephen King and is not your typical horror/sci-fi film. Directed by modern master of horror director Mike Flanagan, this is a movie that is very much anticipated. The cast is also pretty incredible consisting of Tom Hiddleston, Karen Gillan, Matthew Lillard, and Mark Hamill.

28 Years Later (June 20th)

It has been almost three decades since the rage virus took over and spread worldwide. When one guy decides to search the mainland, he discovers a mutation has spread to the infected and the survivors.

28 Days Later was released in 2002 and is said by many to be one of the greatest zombie/infection films of all time. The movie was scary with well-developed characters and a tense story. Alex Garland comes back to write and Danny Boyle returns to direct this new installment. News also states that Cillian Murphy is returning as well. It will be exciting to return to this world. The trailer itself was one of the scariest ones I’ve seen in a long time.

M3GAN 2.0 ( June 27th)

There is no plot at this time but it does seem most of the cast is returning. The first movie was a huge hit for Blumhouse so it’s no surprise that a sequel was greenlit so quickly. What will the killer doll be up to this time? Time will only tell.

I Know What You Did Last Summer ( July 18th)

When Scream was released it generated a bunch of copycat films. One of the most popular ones was I Know What You Did Last Summer. This summer we are getting a sequel and both Freddie Prince Jr and Jennifer Love Hewitt are returning. There isn’t a plot yet but there have been rumors that the new movie will deal more with social media.

Thread: An Insidious Tale ( August 29th)

The Insidious franchise has been huge for Blumhouse since 2010. Many thought the last movie would be the final one but it seems that we are getting a spin-off now. It seems this new movie will have to do with The Further, the place where all the entities come from.

The Insidious movies do not cost a lot to make and they make a good profit. The strangest news about this is the casting so far. It is said that the two leads are going to be Kumail Nanjiani and Mandy Moore. Honestly, I would never have picked those two to be in an Insidious movie.

The Conjuring: Last Rites ( September 5th)

This is said to be the final installment in the Conjuring franchise. There isn’t much information besides Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson returning. The last Conjuring film was pretty disappointing so we look forward to this franchise ending on a high note.

Him ( September 19th)

Jordan Peele is producing this new horror film starring Marlon Waynes. An up-and-coming athlete decides to train with a legend who is about to retire. We don’t know much else and this doesn’t seem like a horror plot at first but I could definitely see some sort of cat-and-mouse thriller about a legend who doesn’t want to lose his spotlight.

Saw XI ( September 26)

Saw X in a way reinvigorated the franchise. There was a time when Halloween meant it was time for Saw. The last couple of installments were not well received even from fans though until Saw X came out. It gave the fans what they have been missing with many saying it was one of the best in the franchise. Here’s hoping Saw XI can keep the train rolling.

The Black Phone 2 ( October 17th)

The Black Phone was a huge success in 2022. The movie was based on a story written by Joe Hill and this sequel is from an idea of his as well. We don’t know much besides it seems the entire cast is returning once again. It will be interesting to see which direction the story goes.

Predator: Badlands ( November 7th)

Predator is one of the best action/horror movies of the 80s. Unfortunately many of the sequels that followed haven’t been really good. Prey came out and honestly was probably the best Predator movie since the original. This new movie brings back the Prey director which is a really good sign.

The story is said to take place in the future where two sisters on different paths meet up with the ultimate hunting machine. Elle Fanning seems to be the only casting announced at this time.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (December 5th)

The sequel is said to continue the story of the first movie exploring more of the connection with the animatronics and the pizzeria.  Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard are set to return.

The first movie even though it was released simultaneously on Peacock was still a success at the box office. This will probably do the same because this game series has plenty of fans.

Death of a Unicorn (TBA)

When a man and his daughter accidentally hit and kill a unicorn with their car, his boss tries to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties — with horrific results.

The movie looks like campy fun and is said to be released in early 2025. It stars Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Richard E. Grant, and Will Poulter.

Frankenstein (TBA)

This could be one of the year’s biggest horror movies; unfortunately, we don’t have a release date yet.

Guillermo del Toro has been wanting to make this movie forever and we are finally getting it sometime this year. Distributed by Netflix and stars Oscar Issac as Victor Frankenstein, Jacob Elordi as The Monster, and the amazing Mia Goth is rumored to be playing the Bride of Frankenstein.

It looks like 2025 is going to be one of the best years for movies in a while and it seems like the horror genre is in good hands. There is even more horror that hasn’t even been announced yet. What horror movie are you most excited about this year? Let us know in the comments below.
