Star Wars Series ‘The Acolyte’ Reportedly Casts Amandla Stenberg as Lead

Disney+ Stars Wars content continues to grow. The streaming platform already has two live-action series in the bag and more is on the way.

A new Star Wars Prequel series called ‘The Acolyte’ is in production and it appears a lead has been found.

According to Deadline, 23-year-old Amandla Stenberg has been cast in a leading role. Although details on the character are being kept under wraps, it is believed Stenberg will play the titular role of the Acolyte.

In the Star Wars Universe, an Acolyte is traditionally someone with force abilities who has begun training under the tutelage of a Sith Lord.  This was prior to Sith Lord Darth Bane instituting the Rule of Two, under which there are only ever two Sith in existence at a time — one master and one apprentice. The series is set to take place around 50 years before the events of Phantom Menace.

Series producer Kathleen Kennedy gave some details when unveiling the show last December, saying:

“The Acolyte is a mystery thriller that will take us into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emergent dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”

Speculation continues to grow, with many Star Wars fans theorizing what the series will have in store for us. Many fans have suggested The Acolyte will finally allow the story of Darth Plageuis to play out on screen.

Stenberg is known for a breakout performance in The Hunger Games and is also known for starring roles in feature films The Hate U Give and Dear Evan Hansen

Leslye Headland, the Emmy-nominated creator of the mind-bending series Russian Doll will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the series which is set to begin production in 2022.

This is the latest live-action Star Wars news to come out in recent weeks: The Ahsoka Tano series starring Rosario Dawson has started fleshing out its cast with both Natasha Liu Bordizzo and Ivanna Sakhno signing onto the project, while The Book of Boba Fett has released NUMEROUS trailers ahead of its debut on Disney+ on December 29th.

The Obi-Won Kenobi series (starring Ewan McGregor) and Cassian Andor series (starring Diego Luna) are also both expected to arrive in 2022.

The future certainly looks bright for Star Wars!
